We often hear that fear of failure can help to energize actions, motivation, and performance of athletes. My doctoral student (Laurence Boileau) put this idea to the test with a new concept called Fear of Failure as Motivation. 50 copies freely available tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

In her book, Dweck claimed that perfectionists have a fixed mindset, but studies showed a link with a growth mindset. When we separate excellencism and perfectionism, it turns out that Dweck was right. Keeping excellencism out of perfectionism reveals what perfectionism is about.

@SIRCtweets Important to clarify here that harmonious passion also involves strong sport commitment, but without the many costs that come with obsessive passion. Much research funded by @SSHRC_CRSH supports the value of pursuing sport with harmonious passion, not obsessive passion.

🧠 Sport passion is shaped by many factors. National-level athletes often show more obsessive passion, and strong coach-athlete relationships can help fuel that commitment. Learn more ➡ bit.ly/43VtUxc

Fans watched Galarraga lose his perfect game after an umpire's mistake. Perfectionists gave a lower rating to his magistral performance. Perfectionists are “hypersensitive to signs of imperfection, even within performances that are practically perfect”. authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S01…

Perfectionists attain their sport goals more than excellence strivers. When goal attainment is low or moderate, perfectionists enjoy and savor their sports less. Their psychological wellness depends too much on achievement. #excellencism is healthier. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

The Model of Excellencism and Perfectionism is now studied in 8 languages. This paper (under review) will help to do mental simulations to generate hypotheses, interpret effects, and graph predicted values of general linear models. Link to the Shiny App in the pre-print...

This is our fourth and final sports card. We had to design it to look like a classic baseball card, in honour of the biggest baseball fan I know @GaudreauUOttawa

Here’s our second sports card showing the main conclusion from 3 pre-registered studies. Also pictured is one of the best basketball players of all time (but maybe not one of the best rappers).

One of our pandemic projects was creating infographics using a sports-card design. Here's the first card (and yes, we got them printed!).

#Passion #AmourDuSport
