I'll just add that my proposals for sectoral standard would substantially reduce gender pay gap, and would operate in large part through building a better wage standard for the care economy.

"The Wage Standard" by @arindube is terrific. Labor econ is a complicated area, and too often people rely on overly simplistic models to understand it. Dube convincingly runs through current research in labour economics, and how we can make labour markets work for workers.

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

I highly recommend this essay by Manisha Sinha @ProfMSinha which extends ideas from her great books The Slave's Cause and The Rise and Fall of the Second American Republic. The essential argument of the essay is that the efforts of "abolitionists, Africans Americans, women, and Native Americans sought to refashion American republicanism to create a modern democratic republic" in the first Republic laid the foundations for what came after.

Thousands of innocents - including hundreds of children - dead in Lebanon and Iran for no reason. U.S. troops killed and wounded. U.S. embassies and bases in the Middle East badly damaged. U.S. standing in the world obliterated. U.S. munitions badly depleted. Hundreds of billions spent. Prices up everywhere. More global economic fallout to come. Putin strengthened and enriched. Just a catastrophic situation even in the best of circumstances. A profoundly shameful episode in American history no matter what happens next.
