A dark comedy thriller that delves into the intricacies of perception and self-hatred versus reality, A Different Man is a severely underrated 2020s thriller masterpiece. The film follows an aspiring actor (Sebastian Stan) who feels that every aspect of his life is being held back by his disfigured face caused by neurofibromatosis. However, after having an expensive procedure to cure his condition and assuming a new identity, he ends up with some unexpected regrets. A Different Man is the perfect example of a film that sets up the pieces and psychological perspective of its characters before having their worldview completely dashed long after the point of no return. Stan gives an exceptional lead performance, but it's his two costars, Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson, that absolutely steal the show with a level of earnest and genuine human connection that hammer home the film's themes in an act of satirical comedy gold.
