It’s funny how everyone is blaming Gold Fields and the chiefs in Tarkwa while forgetting the corrupt leaders who receive royalties and corporate taxes from these mines. You expect a business firm whose sole purpose is to make profits, develop your country for you? What’s your leaders doing? I agree that their contracts shouldn’t be renewed but to blame them? C’mon🧐. Is Tarkwa the only mining town in Ghana that has been deprived of modern infrastructure? Are we also going to blame every other mining company in the country’s mining towns while ignoring how visionless our leaders are? Ghanaians, I promise you, even if the Tarkwa mines become state-owned in the next 20 years, Tarkwa will still be where it is today. Blame your visionless leaders😏

The Chiefs and people of Tarkwa, Huni have appealed to President Mahama to renew the mining agreement with Goldfields which expires in 2027. Commercial underground mining started in Tarkwa by the British Colonial Government in 1874. Goldfields have owned the mines since 1993. The chiefs argue that, Goldfields operations has contributed significantly towards the development of their communities. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Tarkwa in its glory.

@ariel_bediako @theoking2097 Isn't that the government's responsibility? If the government wants a hospital like UGMC in Tarkwa, then it should implement clear and enforceable policies that compel mining companies to contribute to such developments.

The chiefs and people of Huniso in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to renew the lease of Gold Fields Ghana's Tarkwa Mine when it expires in 2027. They argue that the mine has contributed significantly to community development and should be allowed to continue its support despite calls from some quarters for the lease not to be renewed. #CitiNewsroom #Mining #GoldFields #Tarkwa #Huniso #Development #GhanaNews

@Spiribilly @bla_pohpe @Citi973 Tbf it's not up to goldfields or any foreign company to be building our roads for us. That's y they pay taxes and the govt has shares in the mines. The govt hasn't negotiated good deals that makes us get enough to do these stuff

@josemon29729716 @Citi973 I never said I was against locally owned companies. Adamus is locally owned, yet they have not developed their host communities. My point is simple: the government is not doing its part. There should be policies that compel both locally and foreign-owned companies to develop ...

@bla_pohpe @Citi973 Apart from the TNA park. What can you point as significant in Tarkwa. Tarkwa remains an undeveloped with all these mining companies surrounding them biggest among them Anglo-gold and Goldfields. They have overstayed! We can do it ourselves

@bla_pohpe @JudenYeboah @Citi973 Are you however aware of some of the infrastructure interventions Ibrahim Mahama is already proposing for Damang ? Even to the extent of building an airport. As for schools, hospitals and roads, he says they’re basic. They’re already a given. He’s thinking bigger !

@bla_pohpe @Citi973 They spent a few Thousand dollars on you while carting Billions for over 30 years and you think they’ve done something valuable. Scholarship my foot. FREE SHS benefits the entire nation. Ghana’s wealth is not for Tarkwa alone. Stop this nonsense.

@bla_pohpe @Citi973 So it was the chiefs that gave them license to operate ryt. It’s part of government’s initiative for the development of the town hence their operations there. Besides ,development projects are part of their mining licenses so don’t think they’re doing anything extraordinary.
