Situated only about three kilometres from Nairobi's Central Business District and easily accessible through Mombasa Road, Lusaka Road and Jogoo Road, the South B Modern Market, currently in its final phases of construction, is set to provide a dignified and organized trading space for over 1,000 traders. The multi-storey market is designed to replace unsafe roadside trading with modern and structured urban infrastructure. It will accommodate approximately 1,050 permanent traders, with capacity rising to nearly 1,500 during peak market days. The ground floor is designated for grocery vendors, the first floor for mitumba traders, while upper levels will host additional stalls and a restaurant area. The facility also incorporates essential social amenities including a crèche for nursing mothers, an ICT hub, a health room, cold storage facilities and a social hall to improve convenience and welfare for traders and customers. The project is expected to stimulate local enterprise, improve livelihoods and create additional opportunities in retail, transport, logistics, food services and other support sectors upon completion. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration continues to facilitate smooth implementation of the project through close engagement with local leadership and traders' associations to ensure orderly transition into the new facility and promote harmonious coexistence within the surrounding urban settlement.
