@blip_tm There's plenty of fun stuff in that one, Messiah is the challenge. "Space Hitler is depressed because he's space Hitler but knows he needs to be super mega space Hitler" is going to be a lot for a good chunk of the movie going audience.

@rightcalmit Perhaps it's because of the background. It's bright, sunny I guess? So my brain translates the colors in context. There's no way a white and gold dress would have these shades in this environment. If it was DARK around, it would be more plausible.

@Fiveyisntdead @yfcherries It's not that it looks eggshell white, it looks like white under a heavy blue-ish shadow. It's a difference of seeing it as white with a blue tint or a washed out blue.

@ShaunBolen They just ended up giving all of the studios they bought enough rope to hang themselves with. Obsidian was really the exception, they had the leadership to ship games but Avowed/Outer Worlds 2 flopped. Pentiment was successful but still niche. How many of the rest even shipped?

Phil Spencer seems like a cool guy.
But Xbox bought a dozen studios a decade ago and has literally nothing to show for it.

@DenizCamp Feels like there's a lot of restraint to how the Absolute universe is unfolding and that there isn't a rush for every character and every team up permutation to have an ongoing book out immediately and it's great to see that the creatives behind the books are embracing that.

@t0lkien @BradRTorgersen Visual mediums deal in visual metaphors which is what the confrontation with the Wraith is, you're doing the equivalnet of arguing the Balrog has wings because the book says "its wings spread from wall to wall". It conveys an idea and doing an "um akshually" is dull and artless

@blasted_tower @BradRTorgersen By the Battle of the Pelennor Fields it's clear they can see perfectly. The ring drew them even at great distance. If it was right in front of them held up by an enthralled hobbit, they would take it so quickly there wouldn't even be time for the movie's lame arrow shot.

No film adaptation can ever satisfy all readers of a given work. But I have to think the broad consensus among LOTR aficionados is that Jackson's three films are harmonically resonant with the source material. Very little heart or soul lost in the translation. Perfect? No. But very, very good? Yes. And a lot of it has to do with Jackson's approach. He's on record stating he wanted to take the thing as seriously as he could. With minimal "modern" redaction or invention. And I think it shows in the fans' enthusiasm.

@t0lkien @BradRTorgersen It's clear that the riders can not sense the ring directly and it's never actually explained whether they could even tell the ring visually apart from any other gold ring. All it saw was a person standing on the wall during a battle.

@BradRTorgersen Explain to me how Jackson could put Frodo on the walls of Osgiliath holding up the ring to a dark rider literally meters from him, and not break the entire continuity of the story, which hung upon the desperate secrecy surrounding the ring's location and quest.

@KlendathuCap It was rough, I dropped out after the first raiding tier until the pre-patch for Mists. They leaned way to far into the "you're the big hero and all of big NPCs think you're cool and want to be your friend' vibe. Mists on the other hand was excellent.
