Generation after generation, men and women put on the uniform knowing the risk — and went anyway knowing they might not come home. Knowing their families would carry that for the rest of their lives.
To the families still carrying that weight — I see you. The pain doesn’t go away, but neither does the pride.
Freedom has never been guaranteed. It has to be earned, defended, and sometimes paid for in the hardest way imaginable. Today on Memorial Day, we stop, we slow down, and we remember those who did.
We honor them.
We thank them.
And we work hard to live up to what they died for. Keep the democracy they believed in worth believing in. That is the ultimate tribute for their sacrifice.

CLEANING UP THE MINING SECTOR
“All foreign investors and foreign-controlled entities currently participating in the small-scale gold mining sector are required to regularise their operations by transitioning to mining operations above the prescribed small-scale thresholds.
Accordingly, all such operators shall, by 01 January 2027:
a) Increase production capacity to levels beyond twenty (20) kilograms of gold per month; and/or
b) Recapitalise investment to beyond United States dollars Fifteen million (US$15,000,000),
thereby qualifying for operation under the large-scale mining category applicable to foreign investment participation.”

Government will take up “a mandatory minimum shareholding” in minerals such as lithium and platinum under new rules announced today.
Mines Minister Polite Kambamura has classified minerals into 3 groups: Critical minerals (eg lithium, platinum) special critical minerals, and strategic minerals (eg gold).
• Small-scale mining is now reserved for locals. A small scale mine is an operation below 20kg of gold per month, or investing below US$15 million. Foreign miners must upgrade to these levels by January 2027.
• At least 98% of senior and middle management at all mines must be Zimbabwean
📍 Government already has a model for stakes in key mines: it holds a free 15% stake in the Karo Platinum project, with an option to buy another 11%.
