From Abhinandan Sekhri of NewsLaundry: Yesterday, The Washington Post laid off one-third of its staff. It eliminated every single editor and correspondent in the Middle East. Bureau chiefs, from Cairo to Berlin, were laid off, including India’s bureau chief Pranshu Verma. We’re told over 300 people have lost their jobs. Even by the normal standard of media layoffs that have been documented through Covid, this is a purge. This should be a wake-up call. Jeff Bezos bought Washington Post for $250 million. For context, he’s worth over $240 billion. He paid $500 million for his ‘super-yacht’. He also has a ‘support vessel’ that cost $75 million. He spent $237 million on properties just in Miami. He owns over 420,000 acres of land in the United States. He spent at least $20 million – a pittance, compared to the rest of his spending – on his wedding last year. Under him, Amazon spent $40 million to acquire the rights to Melania, a documentary on Melania Trump. Melania herself will get paid 70 percent of this amount. Amazon also spent $35 million to market it. We’re not even converting these dollar figures to rupees because that’s too many zeros for a single email. But remember this, Jeff Bezos could spend $1 million every single day and only run out of money after 623 years. Yet here’s Washington Post’s purge, just a year and a bit after Bezos famously said, “The advantage I bring to The Post is when they need financial resources, I’m available…I’m the doting parent in that regard.” Billionaires don’t have your backs. We’ve said this for 14 years. It’s why we built a series on media ownership and explained NDTV’s crumble after the Adani takeover. Billionaires want to do one thing – make more money. It takes precedence over everything else, whether in America or India. You don’t have the billions – or the millions either – of a Bezos. That doesn’t mean you don’t have their power. You have even more power. Because there are so many of you, of us. We are all stronger TOGETHER! Thank you for supporting Newslaundry and building the future of journalism. For every bad decision made by a billionaire, we’re able to offer you the alternative. Because we’re stronger together. Forward this email to a friend who could use a wake-up call too. Tell them to subscribe. Gift them a subscription if you have to, or reply to this email with their email ID and we’ll email them for you. We’ve got the power together. In gratitude,

It's funny how post-war the Indian government hinted towards ending all cricket against Pakistan, and here we are, less than a year later, with the ICC threatening to eradicate Pakistan cricket if the PCB opts to forfeit a World Cup game vs India. Capitalism baby💰

As per usual, Aditya Dhar cannot write or produce a film without inserting hasbara-esque hatred against minorities or anyone else he deems traitorous. Tells you everything you need to know about the gutter-level aesthetics and preferences of the industry and audiences these days.

Not many know this, but freedom of speech works both ways. She has the right to critique a movie and people have the right to call out her obvious biases and lack of objectivity. As to why she withdrew the review, we don’t know the reason. She can always put it up on her individual YouTube channel and turn off comments if criticism bothers a critic that much.

To push someone like Anupama Chopra to withdraw a review is the absolute pits! Threatening and harassing everyone who disagrees with something as fleeting as a film is such a disgrace. What next? Mannu lorry will accidentally run over their cars and bikes? It’s shameful what this country’s public space has turned into. A space where I grew up to love films cautiously, see deeply and debate fiercely is now a blood curdling snake pit. My heart goes out to each one of you critics taking the punches. FWIW, I’m with you.

Pakistan's people are proving again why they are the most illiterate country in the world!! Faf Du Plesis played peak years of his career in IPL & now he knows that going to auction is a sure shot "unsold" for him so he as precaution already took his unofficial IPL retirement & now at age of 41 he will be playing PSL. PSL is literally getting used & finished product of IPL. Faf acted smart & now making some more money as 41 years old retired player in 3rd grade league PSL🤣😭

Something interesting has happened in the UK. The Oxford Union was set to host a defining debate on the motion: "𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐬 𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲." The stage was prepared for a rigorous, fact-based discussion, with Pakistan’s panel ready and confident to represent their side: 🔹Gen Zubair Mehmood Hayat, Former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan 🔹Hina Rabbani Khar, Former Foreign Minister of Pakistan 🔹Dr. Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK On the Indian side, the debate was supposed to feature high-profile figures: 🔹Gen M.M. Naravane, former Indian Army Chief 🔹Subramanian Swamy, former Law Minister and Harvard Professor 🔹Sachin Pilot, former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Yet when the day arrived, India’s representatives vanished from the debate entirely. Reports indicate that the Modi government refused to allow them to leave India. This was not a matter of convenience; it was political panic. A government that constantly proclaims India’s global confidence and democratic maturity could not face scrutiny on an open, international platform. The motion would have forced India to confront the uncomfortable reality that its so-called “policy towards Pakistan” is in fact a carefully manufactured populist narrative masquerading as security policy. By refusing to participate, India admitted, without a word, that its policy is less about genuine security and more about political theatrics. The Oxford Union debate was meant to expose the truth; India’s retreat only confirmed it.

@Its_CineHub There is something called "acting " which is different from personality . Mainstream so called Hero actors play their own personality . They dont play the character . These actors play characters in true sense. Same in west. Nobody calls Rock the best actor of generation

UNPOPULAR OPINION :- Actors like #PankajTripathi, #NawazuddinSiddiqui, #KayKayMenon are great, no doubt but they’re also OVERTATED when people call them “the BEST ACTORS OF INDIA” .. I mean they shine only in a very specific space that are INTENSE, GROUNDED AND SERIOUS ROLES ! And that’s perfectly fine. But that doesn’t make them universally versatile 🤷🏻 Social media creates an illusion that they can do everything. But imagine them doing what #HrithikRoshan did in WAR, #SRK did in DDLJ, or #RanbirKapoor did in Animal ? 🤯 They simply can’t ! because RANGE doesn’t stretch that far !! Meanwhile, the same MAINSTREAM ACTORS can easily perform their Realistic and Serious roles✅ This is exactly why BOX-OFFICE stardom is with these Mainstream Actors only as they appeal to a much wider audience, carry massive expectations, and still deliver!! People often criticize them only because they’re visible everywhere, not because they lack craft 💥 So in Short, both SET OF ACTORS are essential to INDIAN CINEMA , but looking down on commercial actors just because they do UNIVERSAL FILMS is the real hypocrisy and JEALOUSY 🎬🙏🏻

Aditya Dhar has truly crossed a limit of cheapness in Bollywood. The extreme violence, gore and torture shown in his latest film trailer is the equivalent of watching ISIS beheadings and calling it “entertainment”. His lust for money is so unhinged that he is willingly poisoning the minds of the young generation, desensitizing them to gore and glorifying unimaginable torture. This is the chance for Censor Board to show if have a bigger problem with people kissing or watching someone get skinned alive.
