Today, we address a historic injustice by returning the Benin Bronzes, magnificent examples of Benin's culture and history. Through this repatriation, we acknowledge a legacy of cultural theft and do our part to return African culture to Africans. Shown here: bronze plaque.

Incase no one admit to it. U do know Abbot did all that fussing to the lame police force in Uvalde because he knew they were forewarned of the incapabilities of that police force and such situations. Texas is putting up a fake front period.#BidenDestroysAmerica #texastriggerlaw

Doing things to make your parents proud or for status only goes so far when you in the trenches for decades. The ones that did it for themselves aren't talking and complaining they are doing the work. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@LucindaCantyPhD It is quite hard to speak out while being oppressed because then you can be labeled as racist for speaking out. It's a whirl wind of evil surrounding this topic.

#OnThisDay in 1865, the federal holiday, Juneteenth originated after Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX. He informed the enslaved Blacks of their new freedom and that the Civil War had ended.

On #Juneteenth, we celebrate the day slavery officially ended in America. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 and the Civil War ended in April of 1865, many Black men and women were still forced to work plantations in Texas—the last state to be emancipated.

Betty Bormer was born 8 years before the Civil War ended. When she spoke to the Federal Writers' Project in 1937, she recalled the day freedom came to Texas, the day now celebrated as #Juneteenth. The Library has preserved Betty's story & many like hers: loc.gov/collections/sl…

Susie King Taylor, formerly enslaved, served in the field as a volunteer nurse & camp aid during the American Civil War to end slavery. The US Army captain under whom she served described her as heroic.

As a Black therapist I have to work harder to find therapeutic modalities that work with my Black clients. I’m constantly tweeking things so they can actually improve their mental health. So I’m still working harder because I’m Black. It shouldn’t be this way.

Today I get to write about how certain policies & practices construct Blackness & Black students and how Black youth daily navigate those constructions. I’m hoping to add nuance to discussions on race-making, Black humanity, and anti-black spatial imaginaires. #WritingBlackness
