@maa_bhaishiiH Of course, this happened over a couple of centuries. Rural areas hadn’t come under the influence of Buddhism even when it was at its peak! The decline of Buddhism was marked in Kalinga and Andhra regions as was documented by Xuan Zang in the 6th century CE.

@maa_bhaishiiH The fall of Buddhism is linked to the Roman Empire. As trade w/Rome suffered, merchants — who were the most important support group for Buddhism — started moving away from trading to other avenues such as agriculture. Urban centers started to decline.

The end of Buddhism in India - a thread 1/5 With so much propaganda going on about the evil brahmins "destroying" Buddhism and causing it to vanish out of India, here is my personal analysis of why it fell. REASONS 1. Turkish Invasions - The fall of Buddhism was undoubtedly precipitated by the Islamic Turkish invasion and sacking of monasteries, universities, and libraries. 2. Abstraction at the technical level - For several centuries, philosophical debates among and between the various Hindu and Buddhist sects refined their religious philosophies which made them abstract and less easy for the layperson to differentiate. But why was Buddhism and not Hinduism, vulnerable due to these?

@ShashiTharoor @ThePlaycardgirl The Mughals are descendants of Mongols. But, the likes of Prithviraj Kapoor, Khulbhushan Kharbanda and Hrithik Roshan, who are very Indian, portrayed them. What if a central Asian actor portrayed Akbar - would Indians have accepted him as much as we are made to?

@ThePlaycardGirl . You are simply wrong. After Babur every Mughal King was the product of an Indian wife. They knew no other homeland, lived, loved, died & were buried here, spent their resources here, & left their legacies to us Indians. I certainly wouldn’t cede any of them to Pakistan.

@jsaideepak 4 of 4- Then there are folks like Ashutosh Varshney who stretches it further to liken caste to the Jim Crow segregation laws!!! So, British Colonialists create a bogeyman called caste; and today’s American Left uses it to shoulder-fire attacks at the Indian society!

@jsaideepak 1 of 4- Social stratification of modern India was a direct result of human ingenuity, evolution of vocations/trade, and foreign invasions for over 5000+ years. Modern colonial census-taking by the British solidified the society into the currently prevalent caste classification.

@jsaideepak 3 of 4- 250 years later Ava Duverney makes ‘Origin’ a film based on Isabel Wilkerson’s Dubois-inspired book ‘Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents’, a book that attempts to make the long jump of linking racism in the US with the over-simplified construct of caste!!

@jsaideepak 2 of 4- Consequently, the entire literature around Caste was driven by Western sociologists and historians and interpreted through a simplistic lens of tribes and clans - very similar to how it was as done in Africa.

@Shobu_ Certainly a big advantage that eliminates the grunge aspects of writing. In tandem with Bing Translate, I was able to produce a scene in ChatGPT and translate it into Telugu within 2 mins, and 10 more minutes to fix a few things before I could say viola!!

@IndicaOrg @ShefVaidya Well-researched article. There is a panel of the saptamatrukas at the British Museum. Also, Padma Holt’s seminal book on gramadevatas "Vicissitudes of the Goddess" is a fund of knowledge on this subject.

This paper by @ShefVaidya focuses on the study of the legend of the seven sister goddesses found in different parts of India. It brings out the local variations in the stories, their connection with the Saptamatrikas and their importance in the religious and cultural ethos of the local communities. Downtown #Austin has been rapidly changing for several years now, but it's not just new buildings sprouting up. One of the city's signature towers has a new name. Earlier this week Chase Tower became Procore Tower. The 21-story tower was once one of the tallest buildings in town.

@Lion2Ya @Local4News @AP @HinduAmerican it is somewhat a bogey created by vested groups that are bringing their hate politics from India to the US. That alone is a good reason to throw it out. The big CISCO case was supposed to be the smoking gun which turned out to be completely fabricated.

@blogsophist @Local4News @AP @HinduAmerican Basically comparing the two pieces of legislation while pointing out caste discrimination is practiced within certain sects of Hinduism who believe people were incarnated into societal groups based on past life karma while hate crimes are generally committed by exterior groups.

@Local4News With this being an @AP share, I think there is a parallel to the stalled Hate Crimes legislation awaiting a #MiLeg Senate hearing which is supported by the @HinduAmerican Foundation. California might have those discrimination protections but still some Hindus go by caste anyway.
