@TheRealJamieKay Ahh, the English Summer, the crack of leather on willow, the flutter of a Fascists flag. ( In Altrincham yesterday, but they had to be home by 8, because the foreign nanny finishes at half past.)

@jlbps I just think it's worth reminding people that private sector provision, for profit, has been the main source of NHS care since day 1 in 1948. The NHS cannot be privatised because most of its care is already, and always has been, done by private contractors.

@PaulAllenSK1 @wesstreeting It's greedy to expect your wages to return to 2008 levels when most of the people who would have to fund it, the working people of the UK, are never going to return to those levels themselves. And when most of those people earn far less than doctors during their working lives.

@blue2boot @wesstreeting Less than £19/hr to just under £23/hr is hardly greed. Streeting salary is circa £161,000 pa plus exes plus personal donations, what do you call that.

Any further comment @wesstreeting after your claim the NHS couldn't function without private service providers? How many private services could be replaced if the total cost of those services including the £1.6Bn profit was directly invested in the NHS to provide those services?
Dr Shivam Sharma@DocShivSharma

We’re told we can’t afford doctors. But we can afford £1.6 BILLION in profits for private companies. These are deliberate choices to move NHS money into private hands, not frontline care. The government's privatisation of the NHS isn't so secret anymore.

@jlbps It's about private sector provision to the NHS. I'm reminding people that the private sector is and always has been responsible for the vast majority of NHS care because GP practices practices are private businesses.

@jlbps But GP practices are private firms. No getting away from that. GPs were asked to join the NHS as employees in 1948 but refused. They insisted on being private contactors to it. They still do.

@blue2boot They are partnerships I suppose, but I don't think these are the private firms referrred to in the Guardian article. 😃

Private firms got £12bn NHS contracts. Private equity, offshore tax haven firms big winners. £1.6bn profit in 2 yrs. Enough to pay for 9,178 doctors or 19,428 nurses Health service “taken for a ride”. Say NO to privatisation. Must expand NHS capacity. theguardian.com/society/2026/a…

@ZackPolanski Nearly all NHS health care is provided by the private sector - GP surgeries, dentists surgeries and opticians. The NHS is entirely funded by the private sector.

@TedUrchin Why is the Pope commenting on the Iran situation? He doesn't make such high profile comments on all the slaughter in Africa in various conflicts that are much more deadly and longer lasting. Is it a no Jews no no news thing?

Today’s detention of 200 people over placards sends a chilling message. I opposed the proscription of Palestine Action, and events like this show why. The High Court has already ruled the ban unlawful, yet it continues. This must be addressed and reversed urgently.

@BladeoftheS Laughable. Google and Trump can call things whatever they want. How predictable that a far left authoritarian like @BladeoftheS thinks they shouldn't be allowed to. I have the power to call you rename you PompousBladeofthesun.

Mexico is suing Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. Google has changed the name even though Donald Trump does not have the power to rename international or Mexican waters.

@David__Osland The Red Army was never going to invade western Europe because the US military had nuclear weapons and the Red Army didn't. Moscow and Leningrad would have been nuked long before western Europe learned Russian. @David__Osland is clueless.

@WokeratiMarty Netayahu opposes genocide. That's why nearly all Gazans are still alive. If Israel ever wants a genocide in Gaza, which it won't, all inhabitants will be dead in days.
