It’s getting harder to find new species after 14 years’ fieldwork at Cruachan, Argyll (VC98) but Dictenidia bimaculata and Xanthandrus comtus were notable additions from last week’s survey @DipteristsForum @CRStipula

Does such a thing exist; a GPS watch I could set to British National Grid and have it display the grid ref in big font without having to scroll through any screens. So all I would need to do is look at my left wrist and see the exact grid ref?

Aromia moschata remains a rare longhorn beetle in Scotland so it was fantastic to find three on Angelica in fen woodland at Glenlee (VC73) this week - a very large and impressive creature @NLonghornRS @swseic

Absolute scenes at Loch Awe, Argyll (VC98) when a moth trap session turned into a beetle drive. These are some of the 71 Necrodes littoralis recovered from three traps at Cruachan PS @AshWhiffin @SilphidaeUk About 5% were red forms. What a carri-on!

There’s an interesting bit of insect ecology on display at the moment. I’m sure you remember the massive acorn crop last year (autumn 2022, below). Because Quercus robur is alternate-bearing (big crops are always followed by little crops) we predicted a very low crop this year
