I think I've discovered what devil Pochita really is and how it makes the ending of CSM on the level of Evangelion People hate the ending right now because it feels rushed, unresolved, and people blame the burnout. That might be true, but I think there's something much deeper going on here. Bear with me here, I'm putting this out there so people who are much better at crawling through specifics in the manga can build on it Everyone's looking for what IS instead of what ISN'T. Fujimoto has been hinting at this the entire time with the concept of removal. But while we see concepts being erased, they're not TRULY and FULLY erased. After all, devils could be regurgitated. That makes the birth devil popular, and the concept of chainsaws being used in childbirth-- but I think that's a red herring, and instead, we need to think about concepts that fit everything, from chainsaws to birth and erasure and everything else that's been proposed. Or, more importantly, we need to SUBTRACT what exists in the final chapter compared to what existed before. We need to look at the in between, and the unresolved. For instance, Power has always been a cat person. When I read the chapter, I was confused-- dogs? Why did she say she likes dogs? I vaguely remember her being distasteful of dogs when we first saw her in the original timeline. But importantly, we see that she DOES still love cats. We also saw that the concept of chainsaws still exists, which means that Pochita couldn't have been the chainsaw devil. There's an argument for the Dream Devil, since Pochita is pretty explicit about wanting to see Denji's dreams, but we also see Denji talk about dreams, so that's out too. I saw a comment about Pochita being the Devil Devil, but that can't be it either, since devils clearly exist. By eliminating options, subtracting, cutting... We begin to see the shape take form. I'm sure there's a better way to reach the answer, but in my case, I had a stroke of luck that led me to this concept. See, I thought that one of the big limiting factors here is that translation isn't perfect. Fujimoto thinks in Japanese, after all. Therefore, could dreams have more nuances meaning? Ehat about birth, or unbirth? Or, devil, even? Fujimoto is a guy who loves wordplay, after all. I'm not Japanese or know Japanese well, so I had to rely on googling and hoping there was enough context. I was using google translate on these words, and checking synonyms and alternate definitions-- and then made a dumb mistake. If you input in a single kanji word, google doesn't know what language to use, since the character could be Chinese. Me, being Chinese American and having needed to translate my family's texts many times before, had it auto-translate to Chinese. Flustered, when I clicked the translation back to Japanese and accidentally swapped the text boxes and copy pasted the wrong things... I found an interesting word I wasn't expecting... And was what I think is the answer to all of this. (1/2)
