If you were in charge of rule and interpretation changes for the 2027 NCAA Season and you could only focus on ONE area, which is going to have the biggest impact?

@adamtirapelle I would record shots on the score board. If one wrestler has 5 more then the other he gets a point.

@adamtirapelle They completely let guys back to the edge constantly during the tourney. And it made for boring wrestling. Knee wrestling without attacks needs to be addressed, too. Back to the edge and drop to a knee, ugh.

One thing I'll never understand is changing the way things are called only at the national tournament and it's happened quite a few times. This year I noticed they were calling an immediate stalemate right after a takedown where a guy was trapped below the knees or in a position where he couldn't quickly work up. Honestly I like the call but they didn't call it that way all year. Conversely I thought edge stalling, even though I don't love the rules and the way it's called, was called a lot more consistently during the regular season. When we got to the NCAA tournament it seems like there was a backroom agreement between the officials to not call edge stalling unless it was really egregious, which completely changes the way you've called it during the season. I don't know all the ins and outs but it seems like the officials have a meeting before the NCAA tournament and decide what points of emphasis they are going to call and then everybody just has to figure it out as the tournament goes on. I don't love it. Athletes and coaches need consistency and understanding above all else. Now maybe there was a coaches' meeting where they explained how they were going to change things but I don't think so. Someone enlighten me if that's the case.

@adamtirapelle Lol, I get that. I just don't remember folks being up in arms over one team dominance until PSU became that team and I graduated PSU in 1980. It was a bragging point for Okie St and Iowa, now we need to find something different....let it play out like it did back then

If wrestling wants to grow, it needs more than individual chaos. It needs team drama. A dual meet championship would give fans what every other sport delivers: a real team showdown where the favorite can actually be beaten.
