5 tips for building class climate: 1) Talk to kids when they walk into class. 2) Learn 1 thing about each student. 3) Praise publicly and criticize privately. 4) Apologize when you need to. 5) Don’t take yourself too seriously.

Show your students you care this year by focusing on the small things: greet them at the door, use their names and say hello in the halls, smile at them when you see them and ask about something going on in their life. They will notice. Trust me.
