Today, on #YomHaShoah, the B’nai B’rith World Center-Jerusalem and KKL–JNF held their 24th annual joint Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony, dedicated to commemorating the heroism of Jews who saved fellow Jews during the Holocaust. Speakers, including Ambassador Marriët Schuurman (@MarrietS), a Holocaust survivor and the grandson of a rescuer, recognized their courage. Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from the Philippines, Panama, Albania, Guatemala, Greece, Poland, Norway and the EU were among those in attendance. In 1957, Times Square became “B’nai B’rith Square” to honor our organization’s 114th anniversary. B’nai B’rith’s president then was Philip M. Klutznick (front row center, wearing glasses), an American Jewish leader who later served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President Jimmy Carter. Today, we remember Klutznick’s enduring legacy—from his advocacy for Israel and his support for the visual arts to his efforts in support of integration. #MyJAHM #OurSharedHeritage #JewishAmericanHeritageMonth

#OTD in 1970, armed Palestinian terrorists broke into the Israeli Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay, firing on embassy personnel and tragically murdering 34-year-old Edna Pe’er in the attack. In Edna’s blessed memory, we continue to fight anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias across the globe.

Today marks the 128th anniversary of Golda Meir’s birth, on May 3, 1898, in Kyiv, Ukraine. The first and only female prime minister of Israel—and just the fourth woman in history to lead a national government—Golda Meir helped shape the course of Israel’s history as one of its most pivotal figures. We honor her as one of the great women leaders in Jewish history, a trailblazer whose courage in many of Israel’s defining moments will always inspire us.

We are shocked by – and abhor – an assault on a nun by a man in Jerusalem's Old City. The attack was utterly unconscionable. We are relieved Israel Police swiftly arrested the suspected perpetrator, and that he was also apparently confronted by passersby. There must be no recurrence of criminal attacks against Christians or anyone else targeted because of their religious identity. Israel’s strength lies in being a haven of pluralism; hate crimes must never be tolerated in the Middle East’s sole diverse democracy. We pray for the complete healing of the victim, and join Israelis in standing in absolute and resolute solidarity with her.

#OTD in 1860, Theodor Herzl was born in Budapest. On what would have been his 166th birthday, we pay tribute to the father of modern Zionism and visionary of the State of Israel—and remember the man who dedicated his life to securing a homeland for the Jewish people. 🇮🇱

We are disturbed by a recent rise in violent attacks by fringe Jewish extremists against Palestinian residents—attacks that have grown increasingly severe—including reportedly in the village of Jalud. These rogue individuals in no way represent the overwhelming majority of Jewish residents in Judea and Samaria, let alone Israeli society as a whole, but they have been causing serious harm. There can be no tolerance of these acts. We condemn all deliberate actions of indiscriminate violence—including, of course, longstanding Palestinian terror. It is the responsibility of the authorities to do everything possible to prevent additional attacks of this kind.

We’re proud to share that our CEO, Daniel S. Mariaschin, will receive the 2026 @OrderOfAHEPA Academy of Achievement Award in Civics and Philanthropy on May 13 at the 47th Biennial AHEPA Congressional Banquet in Washington, D.C. As Dan concludes a landmark tenure of nearly 40 years with B’nai B’rith—28 as CEO—this honor reflects his pivotal role in building the modern Hellenic-Jewish alliance and the “3+1” diplomatic framework connecting the Hellenic Republic, the Republic of Cyprus and the State of Israel. We are deeply outraged by this morning’s brutal attack in London’s Golders Green neighborhood, where two Jewish men—one in his seventies and one in his thirties—were violently stabbed. This appalling act is the second declared terrorist attack on Britain’s Jewish community in recent months. It marks a dangerous escalation in a wave of anti-Semitic violence against Jewish residents across London, part of a broader outbreak now under investigation for possible links to Iran. Jewish life in the UK—one of Europe’s largest Jewish communities—is under threat and must be protected with commensurate urgency. nytimes.com/2026/04/29/wor…

#OTD in 1945—81 years ago—the U.S. Army liberated Dachau, the first concentration camp established by the Nazis and one of the last to be freed. From 1933–1945, more than 200,000 Jews, political prisoners and others suffered brutal, dehumanizing conditions there. Over 32,000 were murdered. We will #NeverForget. 📸 Credit: @USNatArchives

Complaints that Jews praying on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem are “performing Talmudic rituals” sound like something you’d expect to hear on a fringe anti-Semitic podcast somewhere. But no—it’s coming from within the U.N. Security Council. In 2026. From the Palestinian Authority’s foreign minister.

B’nai B’rith views with dismay the destruction by an IDF soldier of a statue of Jesus in the Christian village of Debel, southern Lebanon. We repudiate this and any act of hostility against religious symbols, institutions, clergy and communities. The act was roundly denounced by Israeli officials, including President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the IDF has rightly punished the soldier who damaged the statue, as well as the soldier who filmed the act. Moving forward, we urge Israeli authorities and the IDF to ensure this sort of crime never happens again. Full statement: bnaibrith.org/dismayed-by-da…

Iran being elected as a vice president of a U.N. review conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is peak U.N. irrelevance. The Non-Aligned Movement has inadvertently exposed what a farce the U.N. has become by nominating one of the biggest cheaters on NPT obligations to a leadership role at an NPT review conference. How can this organization be taken credibly on issues of peace and security anymore?

‘Dirty Jew’ A man wearing a Star of David necklace was brutally beaten in the Brussels metro. Three youths tore off his necklace and, while striking him, hurled anti-Semitic insults—including calling him a ‘dirty Jew.’ This is what being visibly Jewish in a European capital looks like today. Shameful.

Today marks seven years since a far-right domestic terrorist attacked Chabad of Poway with the sole intention of killing Jews. During the rampage, Lori Gilbert-Kaye was tragically murdered while shielding others from harm. May Lori’s memory be a blessing, and may it further strengthen our resolve to confront anti-Semitism in all its forms.

In New York City, Jewish students are being blocked, harassed and intimidated outside their schools by protesters. The City Council passed a bill to address it. Mayor Mamdani vetoed it anyway. As B’nai B’rith CEO Dan Mariaschin put it: “It is an outrage that a request to protect Jewish schoolchildren—in the city of New York, of all places—would receive a cold shoulder from the mayor and his inner circle.” Read more at @JNS_org: jns.org/news/u-s-news/…
