I can’t tell if you’re stupid or just intellectually dishonest but there is a clear difference between exchanging info to be the first to break a story - which is common place in all of the sports industry - and literally cheating on your spouse with the subjects you are covering. Any journalist should understand this.

I am honestly not trying to throw shade because I like Adam Schefter personally and think he’s a good reporter. But he also violated a pretty sacred journalism standard. I wasn’t referring to him specifically when I said this, but male insiders also have crossed plenty of lines, stayed employed and weren’t subjected to all of this moralizing.

But there is nothing remotely equivalent you can point to of male insiders doing the same. And certainly not a case of them getting caught red handed and not having any repercussions. At worst there’s gray area sharing of inside info but there’s nothing as egregious to violating journalistic integrity as having an affair with the subject you are covering. Also she wasn’t fired, her contract is up in less than 2 months and she stepped down to avoid the smoke.

I don’t think anyone considers him a journalist. He’s literally just known to break news via short form tweets. He doesn’t do any research / investigation or long form content. Him and Ian Rappaport are unique in that role which really requires them to have these relationships and be owed favors in order to break news.

No one makes it a story. 3 photos showing as much intimacy as you have with your grandma, and you have them f**king. This is the mindset of a teenager.

With Vrabel it’s more a moral problem and genuine bad look (unless he was giving her top secret info that could harm his employer). Her being a journalist it’s an ethics issue for her profession as it harms the integrity of journalism. If she were a staffer on the Pats then he’d be the one facing the bigger ethics concerns. Just look at the Michigan debacle with that staffer. The context matters.

I mean I can guarantee you that the photos either originated by either her husband hiring a PI knowing she was cheating and deciding to leak them or the fact that it’s Mike Vrabel who is very recognizable - in which case whoever took it and spread it did so bc of Vrabel not her as doubt anyone recognized her out.

It’s their profession that’s the difference. This is one of the biggest red flag violations you can do for journalism bc it jeapordizes your journalistic integrity having romantic relationships with the subjects you cover. If she were a staffer or worked for the Pats then it’d be much more of a business ethics violation as her superior. Journalists abide by different ethical standards.

I mean yes he should definitely be shamed for it and forced to address it bc it’s a bad look but she is a journalist by profession and there are specific standards in journalism to maintain integrity when covering your subjects and this is a major one. There’s likely no specific rule that he can’t have a romantic relationship with a reporter since she’s not employed by the team in any capacity and he’s not her superior. Much more of a gray area even though both are morally suspect.

Jemele has no point since there’s been no examples of anything close to this big of an ethics violation from the other male insiders and if there was they too would have consequences. So just some arbitrary standard of ethics that Jemele deems fit?
