Friday by 5pm ET. is the deadline to waive a player on an expiring contract like Rozier.
Heat open up a roster spot to sign a player before the postseason.

The Miami Heat are waiving guard Terry Rozier today, sources tell ESPN. Rozier had been placed on leave by the NBA since October after federal indictments into sports gambling activity. Miami will open up a roster spot.

NBA statement: "The NBA has completed an investigation of the Sacramento Kings and Head Coach Doug Christie's decision to foul intentionally late in the team's game against the Golden State Warriors on April 7. The league's investigation determined that Christie mistakenly believed that the Warriors were not in the penalty and therefore instructed his team to foul in an attempt to stop the clock and utilize one of the team's remaining timeouts. The investigation found that Christie made no intentional effort to give the Warriors a shooting foul, or to cause the Kings to lose the game."

Because the earliest starting time for games on Sunday is not until 6PM EST, teams have until Friday @ 5PM ET. to waive a player in the last year of their contract or has a team option in the last year. A player has 48 hours to clear waivers and all 30 teams are afforded the option to make a waiver claim. Last season the deadline was Thursday because games started in the afternoon on Sunday.
