@SukhSidhuDXB I think you might be right, definitely don’t see this resolving anytime soon. Still, as silly as it sounds to outsiders, much worse places to be than here!

@boblak987 I can't see them opening schools until this is completely over, wouldn't be surprised if that means they won't be back in until next school year

Met a trader managing $12M yesterday in a cigar lounge. Expected some insane, complex strategy. He smiled and said: “I risk 1% per trade. Trade breakouts. Cut losers fast. Let winners run.” That’s it. No indicators overload. No secrets. Just basic concepts most people would consider too simple to work.

5 traders who lost everything and came back. I've read every account of what happened to these five. They all said the same thing “Losing everything teaches you things that winning never will.” A thread 🧵

How a $4M poker champion turned every decision you make into a bet — and why that changes everything Annie Duke, Ph.D. (@AnnieDuke — WSOP bracelet winner, $4M in tournament winnings, national bestselling author of Thinking in Bets, Special Partner @ First Round Capital, PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Penn) "A good bet is one that carries positive expectancy. What a good bet is NOT — is one that wins." We cover: - Why every decision you've ever made is a bet (even ordering off a menu) - The green light vs. red light rule for separating outcomes from decisions - How to build an EV calculation for something as messy as choosing a career - Why loss aversion is secretly an uncertainty problem — and how great risk takers solve it - When to trust your gut vs. when gut feel is just bias in disguise - The pre-mortem framework — how to find your blind spots before it's too late - Mental time travel: the parenting tool Annie uses to raise better decision-makers - How she explained luck, hard work & probability to her 4 kids at the dinner table Thanks for making time, Annie. Been a fan of yours for a while. Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 01:12 Defining bets as resource allocation under uncertainty 04:52 Positive expectancy vs. outcome-based evaluation 06:11 Resulting: Why outcomes are not proxies for decision quality 15:19 Calculating expected value in high-variance career paths 18:55 Moving from implicit intuition to explicit decision modeling 24:27 Using base rates and reference classes for startups 30:26 Psychological traits of elite risk takers and traders 31:33 How prospect theory and loss aversion distort risk 45:12 Deconstructing gut feel and the role of intuition 49:36 Evaluating optionality and impact in fast-moving environments 57:13 Mental time travel: Tools for managing temporal discounting 01:01:31 Quantifying the intersection of luck and hard work 01:04:43 Internalizing a probabilistic worldview for long-term edge

Someone wrote an article about the hidden math behind every decision we make. I read it at 2am and couldn't sleep after. Because every single model in it applies directly to trading. Here's the breakdown 🧵

I sympathise with those who had flights over the original holiday dates. I wonder if this perhaps could be due to a realisation that normal flight service won't resume any time soon, and thus doing this would be the least disruptive to education over all. We pay enough for school fees as it is, so personally I'm happy not to lose more time than necessary, especially as home learning is no where near as good as in person.

Sure. If we just pull out and use random statistics, I'd add that deaths in car accidents was 324 total in 2024 (couldn't find 2025 data) in the whole of the UAE, as opposed to 29 cases of violent crime per 1000 population in 2025. Still happier to be in Dubai. Wish you a very pleasant day 🙏

Of course, and it's a terrible tragedy, and I hope the scumbag gets caught and victims recover. My point was more directed at the guy screaming about us 'twats' in Dubai, who are happy here despite the bombings, very well protected by the government, and in absolutely no danger of being stabbed even in the roughest parts of Dubai

@Reddleman2020 @kokeshimum 24 hours after this guy tried to portray the Scotland as a safe haven, multiple people stabbed in Edinburgh ... obviously this snowflake blocked me, but even with the missles, Dubai is still safer by a country mile!

@abacuscoin Didn't they just execute thousands of their own civilians, including many young women? Or does that not fit the narrative you're trying to portray?

@boblak987 Iranians are not terrorists like US/Israel. They do not bomb children, tents, beaches and civilian buildings. They will however siege the city. Be prepared. Nothing gets in and nothings out.

Scene in Dubai this lunchtime - whilst the usual jealous salty lot back in the UK are claiming (hoping) that us Brits in Dubai are scared for our lives and dubai is burning, this is the actual scenes. Beaches open, supermarkets as normal and kids playing in the parks in the Sun. Only downside to this whole thing is I’ve had to cancel a Padel game, but aside from that we’re quite happy here - UAE government is bossing the safety of all residents here 💪🙏

The reason people in Dubai keep pushing the narrative that everything is fine, is because if they do otherwise they will get kicked out and banned from Dubai forever. I hate to break it to you, EVERYTHING ISN’T ok in Dubai and it’s no longer the safest place in the world.

People are rubbing their feet together with glee at the thought of Brits in Dubai coming back to the UK. That’s why they moved, because you’re all weird 😭
