🚨 Georges Ruggiu "Omar", a non-Rwandan convicted for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi Georges Ruggiu, a 68-year-old Belgian national, was a journalist at the infamous Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines (RTLM), an extremist radio station that incited the population to take part in the Genocide. As a mzungu, Ruggiu did not speak Kinyarwanda, and his segments on RTLM were tailored to appeal to educated French speakers in the political and military leadership classes, rather than the general public. When the Genocide was finally brought to an end in July 1994, Ruggiu, like his masters at RTLM, found himself on the run, first to the former Zaire and later to Kenya. Haunted by his crimes, he went underground in Mombasa and converted to Islam under the new pseudonym Omar. His newfound identity, however, was not sufficient cover. He was one of a large group of individuals indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and was arrested in Kenya in July 1997 under what was dubbed the NAKI (Nairobi–Kigali) operation. Ruggiu eventually pleaded guilty to charges of incitement to commit genocide and, in 2000, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the ICTR. “In Rwanda, I lost everything, including my honour,” Ruggiu said in court. Yes, he admitted he was guilty as charged. His broadcasts were deliberately aimed at inciting the population to hunt down and kill Tutsis. What was evident from his broadcasts was that he arrived in Rwanda with a baggage full of prejudice and only needed practical experience to hone his racist rhetoric. The disgraced mzungu génocidaire was, in 2008, transferred to Italy to serve the remainder of his sentence, which he completed in 2012. As of today, there is no public information about his current activities or whereabouts. #Kwibuka32 @freyntje @PVerlindenJst @JudiRever @KARANGWASewase @SadateMunyakazi @KabagambeI

You saying Rwanda isn’t a country is already off but let me address you directly. You come from South Africa, a name that literally comes from colonial geography, not an indigenous identity. It was imposed to describe a location on the map. Meanwhile, Rwanda is a historic nation with a pre-colonial identity that existed long before colonial borders were drawn. So before you question Rwanda’s legitimacy, take a moment to understand the origins of your own country’s name.

Rwanda is a country of people with pride. "We are ready for #peace , for #war for our #lives, we are ready for both : It's for peace? We are more than ready, it's for war to take us back into our past? we are more than ready to fight that war" Afande 🫡~ president Paul Kagame.

because if you, as a Rwandan, act like it doesn't concern you, why would we expect anyone else to respect this week. this is what we mean when we say « unite ». educate yourself, read, listen and hold space for your fellow Rwandan.

You watch this Video and you will understand why no single European country or American should teach us democracy and human rights. Rwanda has seen it all! Sending strength to those who survived after being left alone to be killed by those monsters. #Kwibuka32
