@jdenmcgb This makes it seem random like skill is not as much of a factor

To me, this is beautiful. No excuses, no unassailable mountain.

You really never hear the name “Lex Fridman” anymore. What’s up with that?

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Some unfiltered schizo ramblings:
OpenAI and Anthropic are doing depth first search on AGI. They are pushing one path as far as it can go: scale, reinforcement learning, agents, and whatever comes next.
But the rest of the world will have to do breadth first search across everything else. Every strange architecture, every forgotten idea, every weird cognitive tool, every specialized model. We need to see what bears fruit.
That is why every company will eventually become a lab. Not necessarily by training frontier models, but by using frontier models to explore, test, simulate, and build new ones. Well maybe not Claude, depending on how restricted Fable 5 and Anthropic’s newer models keep getting, but the broader point still stands.
We already know neural architectures can “think” on some level. Maybe nothing beats the scaling path OpenAI and Anthropic are on. But even then, we can still build smaller neural tools: highly specialized models that agents can call the way humans use calculators, search engines, or memory.
And before you overestimate how hard this is, try to understand how dumb the average human is. Like actually think about it. How complex can the average brain really be? All it takes is some unprotected sex and 9 months later boom, the so called “most complex thing in the universe” just shows up.
Maybe the reason we underestimate these models is because we overestimate the human brain.
