@abcnews Just heard Joe O’Brien doing the weather report where he said, “Around the nation tomorrow”. Nation means ‘population’. Surely he means ‘country’? FGS this error is the same one that Jane Bunn (channel 7) has been making for years- please, please don’t copy her! 🫣

I was saddened to hear of Neil Sedaka's passing. A rare talent, he gave us many hits and co-wrote “When Love Comes Knocking at Your Door” with Carole Bayer Sager, beloved by Monkees fans too. My thoughts are with his family and all who cherished his music. #NeilSedaka #M

@CadburyAU We can’t find Cadbury drinking chocolate in Coles or Woolworths. We have tried four different stores and the shelves are empty. The stores don’t seem to know what’s wrong. They simply say it’s unavailable. What’s going on?

@7NewsMelbourne The whole scenario is the stuff of nightmares. How does one vote for a party which so quickly ditched its first female leader? As for the alternatives- let’s not go THERE! Voters are seriously caught between a rock and a hard place. 🫤

@CinemaTweets1 Saw it on opening day here in Melbourne. I’m a huge Neil Diamond fan and wouldn’t have missed it for anything. I absolutely loved it but was hard-pressed to not start singing along in the cinema with every song! 😝🎤

“Nostalgia pays.” Song Sung Blue (🌟🌟🌟) is a lot more fun than I expected. I’m a little disappointed in myself for waiting this long to see this film, but there’s so much to love here. Song Sung Blue is the true story of a couple who join forces to form a Neil Diamond tribute band. The story he follows their ups and downs from the mid 80s to about the early ‘00s & their struggle to keep a dream alive. Do I think this film is an Oscar contender & worthy of awards? Unfortunately, I don’t. But do I think this is worth your time & a few dollars to rent over streaming? I absolutely do. Hugh Jackman & Kate Hudson are such an interesting combination. When it comes to Jackman, I’ve always been fascinated by how well he nails anything related to music: The Greatest Showman, Les Misérables, his stints on Broadway, and of course, the time he hosted the Academy Awards, in which his song & dance number remains one of the most memorable moments in Oscar history. All of that is to say that Jackman is simply at his best when he’s singing & dancing (yes, that includes Prisoners & any rendition of Wolverine). When it comes to Hudson, she’ll always hold a special place in my heart because of her role in Almost Famous. She’s like a big sister to me. She’s an inseparable part of my childhood & a great example of “nepo baby”, if you will (compliment). The casting of Jackman & Hudson turned out to be the lynchpin that allows this film to work. They’re not the first two actors I would think to combine for a film like this- a film that requires humor, dramatic chops, and above all, singing- but they make an excellent pair & their chemistry drives this movie. And while I’m on the casting corner, the rest of this cast is also outstanding- including Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, and my guy Michael Imperioli. But if you cut beyond the casting, you find a film filled with heart. First & foremost, the music is great. All of the musical numbers add to this film’s story & make this a better viewing experience. Then there’s the story, about Claire and Mike Sardina (Hudson & Jackman), which essentially follows two flawed misfits that refuse to give up a dream- that dream being to entertain a massive crowd. Within their flaws & their corks- and, on a more serious note, their past addictions- we find some humor. This script actually made me laugh out loud at a few moments & that surprised me- it’s definitely a feel good film. But there’s also a dose of reality here that allows this to be a believable story. Claire & Mike are in pursuit of something real but life continues to happen to them: financial and medical issues plague them nonstop in their quest to bring their dream to life. And that puts more meat on the bone here. Add up great music, some humor, and some reality, and you get a fun film. There are defintely moments where this movie overplays its hand- it seems to silly at some points & it gets a little too dark out of nowhere in certain moments, which I chalk up to the fact that Hudson & Jackman probably saw this film as a vehicle to an Oscar nomination. That’s perhaps why there are a few explosive/intense moments that felt out-of-place near the film’s last half. But those moments don’t change the fact that this movie is largely self-aware and knows that it is & knows what it isn’t. For that reason, it’s an overall pleasant experience. Song Sung Blue won’t move mountains or change lives, but it’s a fun watch that I surely recommend.
