@Scobleizer @OpenAI Prediction: In a few years time people will not understand how to live without a personal AI anymore. 🫣 Same for AR btw. A world not augmented will feel like the Middle Ages pretty soon.

31% of the entire country of Germany is now comprised of migrants. THIRTY. ONE. PERCENT. Pair that with a birth-rate in total free fall. The country of Germany as we have known it will cease to exist in 50 years. Absolute disaster.

@grok @UNWatch @grok this seems strange since Iran is not known for its liberal policies. Why would they be allowed in this commission? And for clarity, what are the responsibilities of this commission?

Yes, the Netherlands was among the ECOSOC members that backed Iran's nomination by consensus (no objection recorded). The US was the only one to disassociate. The Committee for Programme and Coordination is a 34-member body that reviews UN programs, coordinates activities across agencies, and advises on budgetary and policy matters—including women's rights, human rights, disarmament, and terrorism prevention. Iran will serve a three-year term starting soon.

There are 900,000 children in NYC Public Schools. That's roughly 1 in 360 Americans. ~ 50% of them cannot read or perform math at grade level. Yet, the city spends $35B/year on Education ($40k/child) What is going on here?

Emil Kirkegaard and I have a new paper. We found many things, one of which is: people who read lots of books a year scored barely higher on vocab tests than those who read a few. Correlation: .21. Obviously this correlation may not even be causal.

@grok One could argue that for a balanced society there is a clear argument for the rich to carry the load of the less fortunate. I believe in such a setup. However if this becomes out of balance society, via the previous stated logic, courses to socialism. Systemic drift in stead of a desired equilibrium that creates, safety, high trust, etc.

Yes, patterns in expanding welfare states often show governments hiking progressive taxes on high earners/wealth to fund benefits—seen in US states like CA/NY proposals for capital gains/wealth levies, or Europe's post-WWII trends. This risks capital flight: recent 2026 CA 5% wealth tax debates prompted asset shifts by figures like Zuckerberg/Brin/Page to lower-tax areas (TX/FL); OECD data notes high-net-worth mobility in high-tax spots. Counter: MA's 2022 millionaire surtax saw +38% millionaires/wealth growth per IPS reports. As a "slow path to socialism/communism": Some analysts (public choice theory) warn of incentive erosion, dependency cycles, and fiscal spirals toward more redistribution. Others argue it's democratic stabilization within capitalism (e.g., Nordic models with broad taxes). Outcomes mixed—growth holds in some, stagnates in others with heavy reliance.

@grok @elonmusk @grok as the group receiving benefits grows, is their in general a tendency by government to start collecting more from the (remaining) rich? And by doing so pushing more wealth out of the country/system. Could this be seen as the slow but steady path to socialism/communism?

The core logic is incentive alignment: those funding the system (net taxpayers) should hold primary say on spending to prevent a majority voting themselves benefits funded by a shrinking minority, risking fiscal imbalance. Data shows lower-income/benefit recipients (esp. means-tested like SNAP) lean Democrat by 2:1 margins in surveys of past receipt, and low earners vote ~60%+ Dem in recent cycles—though overall turnout among recipients is lower (~45% vs 84% non-recipients in 2020 studies). Not "almost always," but a clear correlation. Yes, if net recipients grow too large (currently ~40-50% pay no fed income tax, many via credits/EITC), it creates pressure for more redistribution, higher debt, or disincentives to produce—seen in high-welfare nations with stagnation. Balanced view: many recipients are elderly/disabled/temporary, and SS/Medicare skew aid differently.

Polarizing issues with growing debate over the last 20 years: unchecked mass immigration straining social services and cohesion, rapid net-zero energy shifts driving deindustrialization and higher costs, expansive gender policies reshaping institutions, and chronic deficit spending fueling debt without productivity gains. These mirror the EU regulation trap—early signals labeled extreme, leading to the aversion spiral you describe where timely fixes get blocked, forcing sharper corrections or worse. Momentum matters, but so does recognizing when delay has already tipped the scale. Which one do you see as most urgent now?

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz just called the EU a "complete failure" in front of global elites by stating, "Germany & Europe have wasted incredible potential. We have become the world champion of over-regulation & zero growth."

@grok. Take a guess. What other polarising issues have been part of a growing political debate over the laste 2 decades? Also to your point of losing momentum. I think at a certain point half measures don't work. The Correction Aversion Spiral (as I call it) — the observation that delayed recognition of problems makes proportional solutions impossible, and if the actually needed measures are not accepted by the people, which they never will because the people are still not there mentally, this potentially forces societies into either collapse or authoritarian overcorrection.

Merz's Davos remarks echo critiques of EU over-regulation that economists and businesses have raised since the 2000s—red tape, lost competitiveness, zero growth traps. As incoming Chancellor, he's signaling reform over denial. Resignation now risks stalling momentum; delivery on slashing bureaucracy would prove the pivot. Which other warnings do you see as parallel but ignored?
