The road ahead won’t be easy for the Prestonsburg Blackcats in 2026, as the schedule is packed with rivalry clashes, difficult road environments and critical district matchups that could shape the postseason race across Eastern Kentucky. Prestonsburg opens the season on August 21 with a rivalry showdown on the road against Betsy Layne. Anytime the Blackcats and Bobcats meet, emotions run high and this year’s opener should be no different as both teams look to start the season with momentum. The Blackcats stay on the road the following week for another major challenge in the Pike County Bowl against longtime rival Pikeville. Early season games don’t get much tougher than facing one of the mountains’ premier programs under the lights in one of the area’s biggest showcase events. The schedule continues to test Prestonsburg with another road trip to Hazard before the Blackcats finally return home on September 11 to host East Ridge. That contest could play a huge role in building momentum before another physical matchup the next week against Pike Central. District play heats up in October beginning with a home matchup against Knott County Central. From there, Prestonsburg hits the road for back-to-back district battles against Floyd Central and Leslie County — two games that could carry major postseason implications. One of the most anticipated games on the schedule comes October 23 when Martin County visits Prestonsburg. With playoff positioning likely hanging in the balance late in the year, Blackcat Stadium could be rocking for what projects to be one of the best atmospheres of the season. Prestonsburg wraps up the regular season with a road trip to Estill County, giving the Blackcats one final tune-up before turning their attention toward postseason football. This year’s schedule is loaded with challenges from start to finish. Between heated rivalries, tough district contests, and hostile road trips, the Blackcats will have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves throughout the 2026 season.
