Former Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher John Mincone (@JMincone) has allegedly scammed sports card collectors for months. Multiple people report purchasing cards from Mincone, some in the five-figure range, that he never shipped. Mincone is highly active in the sports card community, ranking in the top 25 on the Courtyard leaderboard, a sports card marketplace that publicly displays recent transactions. This morning alone, he conducted tens of thousands of dollars in buys and sells on the platform. His typical scam involves selling cards on social media, taking payment, and failing to deliver. Some of these cards later appeared for sale on Courtyard. When confronted, Mincone offered excuses, claiming financial hardship or hospitalization. Some of his victims think he may have a sports card addiction problem. Mincone isn’t someone you should trust. He threatened legal action against victims who spoke out. He told victims he had attorneys monitoring their social media posts. His family owns a law practice. Always be careful when doing card deals online!
