Daniel is 18 years old Sunday. A gentler soul you will never meet. He has no friends as he won’t leave home and can’t work. Autism does that to you. Please wish him a happy birthday and RT everywhere . ❤️#happybirthdaydaniel
Today’s project — library word wall!! Because no matter how old kids get, they confuse “check in” and “check out”. What other terms should I add? #schoollibrary#schoollibrarian@TxASL
Do any runners who came down with plantar fasciitis have tips? Started having heel pain seemingly out of the blue last Friday. Nothing seems to make it better. Super bummed because I signed up to do the NYC Marathon to raise money team beans in November. Haven’t run in a week.
My mom was a full-time caregiver for my grandmother who was bedridden and had dementia. We only had 2 beds, one for me and one for my grandma. My mom slept on the couch for years. When the couch broke down, she slept on the floor.
This is the least I could do.
Today I paid off the mortgage on my house in Mississippi and gave it to my mom. It's hers now and paid for. She cried buckets.
Thank you all for making that possible.
The winner of our Look Both Ways Favorite Line Tournament is “Plus, why lie to a person you know knows the truth?” Every round was full of tough choices because this book has so many beautiful, wise words that gave us all the feels #lookbothways@JasonReynolds83
@christiemegill Try the "I Can Read" series. They are leveled 1 through 4, from easier to more difficult. Also, permabound puts out a nonfiction series under the series title, "Red Rhino." Good information with enticing illustrations. If you have a library nearby, go there and ask:)
Can I get recommendations for highly illustrated chapter books? Heavy on the pictures, but a step above picture books & a step below traditional chapter books in terms of word count. Thanks!
@laurenTarshis They may not know what an avalanche is, but they will definitely want to find out when they see it in the title of one of your books. I was talking with students about your "molasses flood" book. One student asked what molasses is. Now they all know! 😁
Teachers, a question for you & your students. Do most kids know what an avalanche is? I think many don't (why would they?) I'd love your (and their) thoughts. It will impact the title of I Survived 22, which is about the deadliest avalanche in US history. Thank you (as always!)
@kellybarnhill Aaawh! Do you have any of their t-shirts or clothing that they left at home so that she can have their smell? Or try calling the kids and have them talk to her. She may recognize the voice. I've never done this before but maybe you could show the dog their faces on a video call?
It's emotionally taxing to have my book(s) banned. But not because they're my books, but because all I can think about is the message it sends to the Black kids who see themselves in my books.
They deserve to have their stories told whether it makes you comfortable or not.
@angiecthomas It hurts when books are banned. Even though I'm not the author, I send "my" books everyday, make sure they are put into loving hands, and make sure they find their way back home. They are my babies and it hurts when they are not seen for their beauty and perfection.
Teachers, I'm amazed by the response to my virtual visit giveaway. I'll be announcing winners 1/10. But should I also host some large free Zooms? Maybe once a week with different topics? Or are videos better than live? Would love ideas for how to be a part of your classrooms.
When the halls are quiet, @laurabweiss and I rocked out this exhibit for our kids. So many ppl from different backgrounds have made our lives better. Check the table out to learn more. @Carmelschools
