Still doing rough blocking in of color. Decided to go with lorica squamata for the centurion. Not looking forward to painting hundreds of bones littering the ground.

15 AD, Germanicus and his officers walk the battlefield near Kalkriese where Varus' legions were butchered in Teutoberg Forest. Behind him, the troops are gathering the remains of their comrades. More rough sketching tonight, trying to get the poses right.

@tr_hudson @boosta11b I’ve read both All the pretty horses and Blood Meridian but Lonesome Dove just sinks into my soul how beautiful the west is. This book is like America’s version of the Odyssey

Lonesome Dove is a great achievement of American literature, more accessible and relatable than McCarthy's Blood Meridian or Border Trilogy. Few books have made me ache with sadness for the plight of a character, nor made me heap scorn on other characters as if they were real people. Because they are.
