@Dread_Botlord Thank you! Makes sense. It’s an interesting topic, only thing I dislike is that certain people are dismissing GL’s own creativity and contribution by claiming it’s a ripoff or whatever.

@bootcutgenes are often parts Valerian owed to Dune. it’s not like Star Wars is a copy of Dune but it’s just not accurate by george’s own admission via the intermediaries he used that credit dune that it’s only 3% inspiration

@thx1138_v2 @PanasonicDX4500 The Bene Gesserit and the Jedi both function as monastic orders outside the government with their own goals AND also in service to the government. Both are trained as superhuman warriors that can manipulate the minds of their opponents. Both are warrior monks. One came first.

@heroesahead @RandySTG Tattoone, Anakin/Luke, sand ppl, krayt dragons, spice drugs, the hutts, moisture farming, an ancient order who can compel ppl with their voices... All of this comes from Dune bro

@LegoKingo You have to give "Dune" credit for being SO early and SO influential, it's "Star Wars" and ASOIAF and "Hyperion" and "Baahubali", but I find all of those much more interesting and engaging as actual stories.

I think the question of Dune’s orientalism/its relationship to the idea of a historical Great Man is a little complicated and muddled. Herbert often wavers between seeing Paul as evil and seeing him/his children as tragic heroes.

@TheJobfather__ I think Flash Gordon has way more of a shadow over starwars but no one is interested in that.

@TheJobfather__ Yep. Anakin is basically Paul, and Palpatine is heavily inspired by Leto II Even the "sand planet" setting was heavily borrowed from.

Maybe a fucked up thing to tweet about a 19-year old who just moved abroad for the first time in his life a few months ago, but it's hard not to suspect that Roma spending €25m on Robinio Vaz was a pretty big mistake

You are a games journalist, and a shitty plagiarizing hack one at that
Luke Stephens@LukeStephens

@LegacyKillaHD I predicted after the preview that this is one that game journalists will loathe. There is zero hand holding and even at the preview event I witnessed several journalists from big outlets getting stuck in the tutorial puzzle for 45 plus minutes...

@HyruleLegendJay @MrHooboMaster I don’t, but he is one. He does what he does to cultivate an audience intentionally, including this boring anti journo stuff, making 83 Starfield videos beating a dead horse etc. He knows how to push his audience’s buttons, I don’t think he has any sincerity

@bootcutgenes @MrHooboMaster You can't call everyone you don't like a grifter, he has plenty of divisive going against the grain type videos in the last year.. did you ever consider he may really genuinely love the game? Paul Tassi literally said "Whatever Metacritic is wrong" in response to the lower score.

So I gotta ask.. Why do youtubers that do the exact same thing as "game journalists" (but in video form) think they're somehow superior to game journalists? If anything youtubers in general has less education and a way more reasons to outright lie to get liked and easy views.

@HyruleLegendJay @MrHooboMaster unfortunately watched plenty of his videos. They are essentially gameplay and story descriptions without any insight into anything that makes the games work or not work. He was divisive in the past because he was essentially a reactionary, he toned it down but he still grifts

@bootcutgenes @MrHooboMaster You are factually incorrect and I know that as a fan of his because his videos in the early days were divisive and he was actually a critique YouTuber who made hours worth of videos of unpopular opinions. You should really know what you're talking about before making a comment.

It’s easy for me to say because I’m not a streamer, but CCs who are this beholden and afraid of their own audience just seem … so nakedly disingenuous. Especially when you’re talking about people who have so much money that the difference between 8k and 10k viewers is zilch
Kahlief Adams@KahliefAdams

Outside of the Marathon vs Arc convo. I think this is a perfect reflection of the way streaming (especially from larger creators) is no longer about taste making and way more about trend following which is why I’m losing interest in the space as a viewer. It used to be super fun to find diamonds in the rough, but it just continues to be the same folks playing the same games with the same group of people. It’s kinda boring.

@HyruleLegendJay @MrHooboMaster Stephens has credibility and trust with an audience because he has never said anything of interest or note in a single one of his videos and follows the herd to build his audience. It’s more difficult for people with actual opinions to do this because they actually think

@MrHooboMaster I think the better question is why do people like you feel the need to defend gaming journalists and attack YouTubers who have far more credibility and trust with their audience? This shit didn't happen out of nowhere, IGN, Kotaku, GameSpot and others have contributed to this.

@MrHooboMaster Luke doesn't seem like a bad dude but I thought even he at one point was trying to cash in on the grift at Naughty Dog's expense. I just don't have patience for the shit.

@NebsGoodTakes @RoguishRazmiran It’s hilarious that he titles them that. They’re literally just story readthroughs and gameplay descriptions with the occasional “I like/dislike that”, with 0 insight into why things work or don’t, how they jive together etc. He’s a pandering grifter who toes the popular line
