You must never forget where you have come from or you’ll never get to where you’re going! Here is a wage packet from when I was 16 years old. I was a builders labourer and this wage even included some overtime. My mum found it recently tucked away in one of her drawers. She had kept it as a keepsake.

Due to Banks closing 54 branches a month, This now leaves a huge problem for small businesses like this fantastic local store who are asking if the local community has any change. You can’t get physical pound coins & change from a computer online, You need a local Bank

@skierhughes @GrabYourSpoon I'm the CEO of a charity, and our organisation is one of 800 of its type in the UK, So independents with one common goal work, I'm sure there are retired supermarket managers out there that would relish the idea of community groups controlling the narrative

@BootleToolshed @GrabYourSpoon I'm all for your idea though, it would need to become a national chain though. I've started and run many CIC's.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to this post. Slightly shocked at some of the replies who absolutely missed the point about how expensive it can be to be less well off & live in an underserved area for basic amenities. Many more of you tho TOTALLY got it.👍

@skierhughes @GrabYourSpoon Why couldn't they buy at the same rates if not better ,at least one community run supermarket in every community even rural and semi rural areas, I'm sure if they ran as charitable organisations they would be viable give the retired shop keeper something to do

Members of government asked to hear from my experience with Burnley Savings and Loans, & asked me to discuss with regulators & funders what it would take to enable a network of Regional Mutual Banks in the UK It was a great meeting, chaired by Business Minister @kevinhollinrake & MP @jogideon some great pics of the meeting here in London, discussing community banks run by the community to benefit the community #BankofDave
