The vision of Mr President @officialABAT in approving a Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) for the health sector, and tasking the Ministry to engage with development partners to birth new reforms, is to deliver improved quality population health outcomes for all Nigerians. Today, we met with the Health Development Partners and Ministerial Leadership Team to review the work we have done in line with the Presidential approval. Further endorsed at the 64th NCH recently. The SWAp we have jointly designed is pragmatic, adaptive, and suitable to Nigeria’s health needs. And highlights our plan to use the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund #BHCPF as a basis for reviving the primary health care system in addition to other financing mechanisms. The task ahead is huge but surmountable and we are committed to leading the charge. We will provide the leadership, effective governance and other enabling policy measures to deliver an efficient, equitable and quality primary health system. We also count on your continuing partnerships, working together as One Team, bound by One Plan, towards One Goal, to deliver Renewed Hope for improved health outcomes for all Nigerians.

We are concerned about the high out of pocket expenses Nigerians experience in order to access medicines and other pharmaceutical products. The Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, @officialABAT, as part of its Renewed Hope Agenda is keen to find ways to reverse the hardship of Nigerians in this regard. The Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, @Fmohnigeria, is working towards policy actions that may address the high prices of medicines especially for the most vulnerable Nigerians. This morning, on the margins of the ongoing 64th National Council on Health, #NCH64, in Ekiti State, I met with the representatives and CEOs of Pharmaceutical Companies in Nigeria to listen and understand better their perspectives so that we find workable solutions in national public interest. A critical focus of our Health Sector Renewal is unlocking value chains. Towards this, Mr President recently created the “Unlocking Healthcare Value-Chain Initiative”. Our intent is to stimulate private sector led, sustainable, local production of critical health products. We have scheduled an invitation-only meeting next week with the key national actors in the industry to follow up and find workable solutions. #BHCPF #RenewedHope #UHC
