Having a parent/parents who you can't communicate with on a conceptual/cognitive level that you require but they cannot meet is a disheartening experience. You want their advice and guidance but you end up feeling like the adult in many exchanges and you feel guilty about it.

I guess I'm at the age where I should need my parents' guidance less, and it's certainly true to a good degree, but at a time of hardship and they haven't really been insightful at all and just say stuff I've already considered. They do love me so that helps some on its own.
