Summary:
You can bleed and still get pregnant because not all bleeding is a true menstrual period.
Key Reasons:
•Implantation bleeding: Light spotting (often pink/brown, 1–3 days) when the embryo attaches to the uterus, usually around the expected period time. Many mistake it for a light period.
•Ovulation during/after bleeding: In shorter or irregular cycles, you can ovulate while still bleeding or soon after. Sex during the “period” can lead to pregnancy since sperm survives up to 5 days.
•Early pregnancy bleeding: Hormonal changes, breakthrough bleeding, or other issues can cause period-like bleeding in the first month (or rarely longer).
Bottom line: Bleeding doesn’t guarantee you’re not pregnant. A true period only happens when no pregnancy occurs. If in doubt, take a pregnancy test 1–2 weeks after the bleeding and consult a doctor if needed.
