@lawrjones @incident_io Thanks so much for sharing 🙌 Are you doing any kind of autoscaling, or just a static # of app instances? Also what’s your per-instance connection limit? We have a Cloud Run job that ingests embeddings into pgvector which gets autoscaled and uses up our connection limit 😅

@boxofrad @incident_io Nope, used it before but we: - Don’t have that many connections - Prioritise simple infra where possible We can afford to set our connection pools to be static for now. Might hit limits in a year or so, but good for the moment.

We moved to GCP at the weekend and my favourite things has to be CloudSQL query insights. In 2hrs of debugging we've cut 2/3rds of the load from our database. Now idling at a silly 4.9% CPU and providing @incident_io users with a very snappy experience.

In 2020 Figma started hitting growing pains with their single managed Postgres database. That means they managed to grow to a $2B company on a single mged instance. I bet at they hired engineers around this time who grumbled about not picking a more ‘scalable’ tech.

Is there an easy way to simulate filesystem guarantees (or rather, lack thereof) in a golang test? I'm looking for something that will randomly fail and tell me that I forgot to fsync.

So they're shutting down Amazon Smile to focus on "philanthropic efforts with greater impact" rather than, say, making it the default (and actually giving it a chance to work) instead of sticking it on some janky subdomain you have to remember to go 🤔
