@boydmjohnston @SimonMDLord @but_cyclists @ArtistCyclist Again this doesn’t pertain to the original argument. And no, you’d need specialist insurance. Very rare. x.com/draganbajic/st…

@SimonMDLord @but_cyclists @ArtistCyclist Look at the original post. No emissions or road damage=no VED. That’s OK, but using the same logic: no road tax, no insurance, no fuel duty (or VAT)=no cycling on public roads. General taxation has no logical relevance to this argument.

Let's all agree cyclists should pay Vehicle Excise Duty like car drivers have to. To be consistent we should calculate it using the same methods applied to motorised vehicles. Cyclists do not create emissions and do not damage the road. Therefore the charge comes to zero. Result.

@5280FT @but_cyclists @Aaron05017075 @SlopHq How is gdp relevant? London, Paris, Berlin and Rome are all much more pedestrian-friendly as they are no longer dominated by motor traffic. This makes tourism a significant contribution to the economy.

calling a bike lane a "war on cars" when cars have 12 lanes and bikes have a stripe of green paint is the most impressive victim complex in modern american life and i say that as someone who has watched a lot of american life

@CroyyTarterr @but_cyclists @TheRoadPadrone There was one incident where a pavement cyclist was deliberately knocked off by a pedestrian, fell onto the road and then struck and killed by a car. Pavement cycling is not safe for pedestrians or cyclists.

@CroyyTarterr @but_cyclists @TheRoadPadrone It's actually safer on the road for a properly trained cyclist. There are road rules to protect cyclists, and drivers are afraid of scratching their precious cars if they hit a cyclist. Having said that, being hit by a car hurts more than hitting a pedestrian.

@5280FT @but_cyclists @Aaron05017075 @SlopHq Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of cycle commuters in all the major cities in Europe where, on most routes into city centres, cyclists far outnumber drivers. Cycling is a legitimate mode of transport for shorter journeys, cheap, healthy and non-polluting.

@gpz01 @DrAnamorphosis @theSNP SNP2 in the last election produced lots of unionist MSPs because it took 10 times the number of SNP regional votes to get one list MSP compared to other parties.

Dear @thesnp (or anyone) I'm going to vote SNP 1, but why should I vote SNP2? Look at this Ashcroft polling - 31% of the list vote gets ONE list seat. Tell me what I'm misunderstanding, show me some modelling to make voting SNP2 make sense - seriously

@DraganBajic @SimonMDLord @but_cyclists @ArtistCyclist Council tax pays for the roads that cyclists use. House contents insurance policies cover third party liability insurance for all cyclists in a household. Probably a higher percentage of road cyclists are insured than drivers.

All drivers should have 2 weeks per year when they are not allowed to drive. It would make them realise how shit town planning/road safety/public transport is for pedestrians in the UK and maybe do something about it.

@CroyyTarterr @but_cyclists @TheRoadPadrone The difference is that cycling on the pavement is illegal. Cyclists on the road are almost always perfectly predictable - to be otherwise is dangerous for the cyclist and most road cyclists are well aware of that.

@CroyyTarterr @but_cyclists @TheRoadPadrone No, cyclists belong on the road. Pedestrians are too unpredictable. Like drivers, cyclists have places to be and schedules to keep and being on the road allows them to travel at a reasonable speed.

@BenGrahamUK @but_cyclists You know nothing about cycling. Regular commuter cyclists learn very quickly that their biggest problem is dealing with drivers who can be careless, incompetent, distracted or, rarely, even malevolent. And cyclists don't have a protective metal skin.

£2 million. On a roundabout. Not even a new road, just a redesigned junction in Hemel Hempstead. This Dutch style layout prioritises cyclists and pedestrians, forces drivers to give way multiple times, and is so confusing the council had to release a 3 minute explainer video just to show people how to use it. Meanwhile, roads crumble, services struggle, and bills rise. This isn’t investment. It’s mismanagement.

@abadabus @ChaponaBike123 If you're a cyclist, then you clearly have no bikeability training and haven't read the Highway Code, both of which advise cyclists to take the centre of the lane where the road narrows. This driver was a bullying a**ehole.

@ChaponaBike123 Why do you intentionally antagonise drivers? You did not have to ride in the middle of the road like that. You’ll claim you didn’t, I know you will, but you did. You intentionally antagonise drivers and it’s all for clicks. Not cool dude. You give us cyclists a bad rep.

@FietserGlasgow @PhilipOnslow @ChaponaBike123 All the driver had to do was lift off momentarily. The cyclist was on his own side of the road and reached the narrowing first. The driver was an inconsiderate oik.

@UU_Ess_Pee @but_cyclists Personally, I never jump red lights and don't like to see other cyclists do it. The cyclists who do it are annoying, but seldom dangerous to anyone but themselves. It's an overplayed theme from people who just don't like cyclists.

@boydmjohnston @but_cyclists I witness as many cyclist errors as you do driving ones. It’s just how it is. However, you jumping red traffic lights and saying cars cause most fatalities is a bizarre take. I mean, if you jump a red light and crash in to me, you may die.

What actually makes a cyclist's day is completing a journey without capturing any instances of driver's "making a mistake"

@UU_Ess_Pee @but_cyclists How little you know about cycling! Keeping myself safe from all these driver "mistakes" is the main priority - that's where the danger comes from. Any commuter cyclist will be fully alert and anticipating the next "mistake" they're bound to encounter.

@UU_Ess_Pee @but_cyclists On every commute I would see several drivers making a "mistake" that would be an immediate test fail. Phone fiddling, close passing, amber gambling, tailgating etc etc. Every commute, multiple drivers. Driving to test standard is a lost art for many.
