Thank you to the people of NY-10. To everyone who knocked a door, made a call, or donated a dollar: this win is only possible because of your belief in a people’s movement. Tonight, you sent a resounding message: That you want leadership ready to fight, not fold, against authoritarianism. That you’re ready to join together with neighbors to build a city that is truly affordable & welcoming for all. And that it’s finally time for a politics of solidarity that doesn’t compromise on anyone’s humanity or dignity. Message heard loud and clear. Tremendously grateful for the honor of representing you. I'll fight ceaselessly to be the congressmember you deserve.

.@AyOdeh is a brave champion for shared safety for Palestinians and Israelis. He works ferociously for the rights of the Palestinians and an end to the occupation – while also making clear that the only path forward is mutual recognition and self-determination for both peoples. He’s leaving the Knesset after a decade, but his mission remains the same: he’s working to build a movement of a million Israelis and a million Palestinians who share a vision for justice and peace. It was an honor to welcome him to our home, and to strengthen our partnership for the work ahead.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a father of three who built houses in Houston, started his own business, and raised his family here for 35 years. His son became a teacher. ICE agents killed him in cold blood.  Lorenzo is at least the 8th person killed, and at least the 21st person shot by federal immigration agents during the Trump Administration. There’s only one incident (in Hennepin County, Minnesota) where anyone is being held accountable. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is planning legal action – that’s where we are. Other countries have to bring action to address human rights violations here. Meanwhile, I was in court this week on behalf of a three-year-old who's been needlessly separated from her mother for almost a year now. And she’s just one of thousands of other kids. For Lorenzo, Renee, and Alex, for Estrella (not her real name), and so many more whose names we don’t know: We will not grow complacent, or tired, or distracted, or accustomed to ICE’s brutality. We will honor their memories by fighting to abolish ICE, protect our neighbors, and uphold the rule of law.      nytimes.com/2026/07/08/us/…

Here's something to celebrate this weekend: The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act has officially been enacted into law. Trump canceled the signing ceremony in an authoritarian temper tantrum – and because he couldn’t care less about the actual needs of working families. But the bill has now become law without his signature. Huge credit is owed to @ewarren for leading the charge. She and her legislative partners deserve praise for showing that bipartisan legislation is still possible. The bill will cut red tape, boost housing supply, expand homeownership, and put the first restrictions in place on the expansion of private equity ownership. There’s lots more to do to lead the next generation of federal housing policy. In Congress, I’ll champion bold solutions like Social Bonds for Social Housing and "Street-to-Home" Vouchers. And I’ll look to follow Senator Warren’s model to build the biggest coalition possible to get things done for working families.

I talked with @DanaBashCNN today about what a Jewish and democratic Israel — consistent with its own Declaration of Independence, and something I long to see — would actually look like. A few key points: 1. Israel can't be a genuine democracy while it's occupying the West Bank & Gaza and denying civil & political rights to Palestinians there, fully half the people under its rule. 2. Like B’Tselem, Omer Bartov, and the Lemkin Institute, I think — with deep sadness — that Israel's conduct in Gaza meets the definition of genocide. But even if you don’t, it’s profoundly inconsistent with the Jewish value that every one of those Palestinian kids were created in the image of God, just like ours. 3. The freedom, safety & thriving of both Israelis and Palestinians is deeply intertwined. Israelis will not be safe until Palestinians are free. We need a U.S. foreign policy aimed firmly at making this real. Shabbat Shalom to everyone, and especially to everyone who refuses to compromise on anyone else’s humanity.

Grateful to receive the endorsement of @PPact! I've been a champion of reproductive justice my whole career – and you better believe I’ll be one in Congress. I'll fight to codify abortion rights, repeal the Hyde Amendment, and support reproductive health care. With a MAGA Supreme Court hellbent on decimating abortion access, we need to fight back with every power we have (part of why I believe in SCOTUS expansion and term limits).

I first met @AbdulElSayed through our dear friend Ady Barkan, who died of ALS while courageously crusading for Medicare for All, and there is no one who will work harder than Abdul to win that fight. We need Abdul in the Senate to end the reign of billionaires and special interests, so Congress can deliver for working people.  Abdul and I will also be partners in resetting U.S. foreign policy to achieve a just peace for Palestinians and Israelis, beginning by ending U.S. military aid to Israel while it violates international law and Palestinian human rights. We share the belief that the rights and safety of Jewish and Muslim people are inextricably intertwined, from the Midwest to Midtown to the Middle East.

This is a level of billionaire surveillance & control (and downright pettiness) that should send chills down all of our spines. To what lengths will Jim Dolan go to assess the "risk score" of MSG attendees? And why in the world would his enterprise identify their sexual orientation in a database? Here's an idea: Let's cancel his tax break and crack down on runaway data collection. Going to the Garden for a Knicks game shouldn’t result in massive personal privacy violations!

Across the country, communities are rising up to fight back against AI data centers poisoning their water & overloading their energy grids. The threats being posed by these facilities — to our environment, our jobs, our democracy, and our humanity — are too massive to go unchecked. The future belongs to all of us, not just to Mark Zuckerberg and AI oligarchs. We urgently need Congress to prioritize sensible AI regulation that addresses the societal risks & ensures public benefits. Until then, we should suspend the construction of new data centers.

Harper’s Magazine was founded in NYC in 1850 & has been a treasured publication here since then. But the leadership needs to step up & offer their workers a fair contract, one that pays enough to live here. Right now, they are far behind their peers. Proud to join @harpersmagunion @uawregion9a & the growing caucus of elected officials who support unions on the picket line today.

But if you were wondering about the impact of Trump’s genuinely evil immigration policies, or why we need to abolish ICE, thousands of kids needlessly separated from their families for many months is one more hideous reminder.

I was back in Immigration Court this week, this time for the hearing of a sweet little three-year-old girl, I’ll call her Estrella. She’s been in federal custody, separated from her family for more than 10 months – even though her mom lives here in NYC. The cruelty is truly mind-boggling.

To the @NYHTC workers in Times Square demanding dignity on the job, know that we have your backs. Gehr Hospitality has been paying poverty wages, stonewalling, and negotiating in bad faith for four too-long years. It must end. Our tourism industry can't thrive without your dedicated service. Ready to keep fighting alongside you in solidarity until you receive the fair wages & workplace protections you deserve. Union-busting tactics will never be tolerated in our city!
