This is all very interesting, but it's just a by-product of the rancid culture of political journalists offering themselves as conduits for backstairs operators' anonymous quotes. And until this is recognised and rejected, this is what we're going to get x.com/i/status/20577…
Peter Oborne@OborneTweets

Political journalists conspire with ministers’ aides to fake multiple sources for stories to give them spurious credibility. Stories quoting three separate sources can be nothing of the sort, a Times journalist alleges. I report for Byline Times: bylinetimes.com/2026/05/22/tim…

Shameful how Western leaders have found in fascist Ben Gvir someone to criticise so as to cover up their silence and complicity in Israel's Apartheid laws, war crimes, and genocide... theguardian.com/news/video/202…

🟣 MAKERFIELD: it's also interesting that Searchlight asked Farage & Tice almost TWO YEARS AGO why Robert Kenyon was a Facebook friend of fascist leader Gary Raikes. This is Kenyon's third time as a candidate. Is Reform's vetting of candidates non-existent, or don't they care?
@Tomorrow'sMPs@tomorrowsmps

🟣 MAKERFIELD: I suspect Robert Kenyon won't last long as Reform candidate. When Kenyon stood here in 2024, the anti-fascist group Searchlight tweeted he was Facebook friend of Gary Raikes, leader of New British Union, reincarnation of Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists

We’ve created a kind of sick pornography for the politically sadistic. The kinds of people who read this kind of thing and take it seriously are a far more significant threat to all of us. We’re never going to do this, it’s just an excise in thrilling very perverted people.

🗣️ 'We need a radical plan to tackle the welfare state. And funnily enough, this one was proposed by the man who invented it' Michael Deacon argues the unemployed should be stripped of their right to vote ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/1…

@AllyFogg While this is all true, I don't think the impact of a Restore candidate might have on the Reform vote in a byelection should be discounted. And it's also pivotal that Greens hold Burnham/Labour's feet to the fire considering a deal's been done with Josh Simons/Labour Together

We need to be realistic about what we think could possibly happen, we need to not set ourselves up for a humiliating disappointment, and we need to be realistic about what is the best use of the party’s financial and human capital.

Lot of people from elsewhere seem to think that because Greens won Gorton & Denton we can win Makerfield or get close. Makerfield is not like G&D but culturally & politically it is quite like Denton. So let’s talk about *just* Denton. >

@suey2y @ZackPolanski Sorry, but if Labour wanted the Greens’ help, perhaps they shouldn’t have spent the past month calling them antisemites and extremists. Reaping, sowing and all that. And Josh Simon’s’ seat? Whatever backroom deal that sorted that will be to Greens’ detriment.

I really think this is a shame. Trust has to start somewhere. Showing you’re the ones willing to try - the REAL “grown ups” and even failing, still awards you the higher ground or a long term win. The Public Do Not Want This @ZackPolanski

🚨NEW | Greens confirm they will contest Makerfield. Despite Caroline Lucas urging the party to step aside and endorse Starmer's Labour Party, a Green spokesperson said the selection process has begun. "We've shown we can beat Reform" they added. (Via @Telegraph)

@flying_rodent Once read a story where Wes visited a school holding a student council election. And the kids reported Wes's advice to them was... 'pitch to the teachers, they're the ones most likely to vote'. I think of that every time a paid political pundit tells us about his massive talent.

Is it possible to just con FBPE over and over and over the same way, just one swindle after another? I am going to say: absolutely, yes it is.

The more I think about it, a Mandelson/McSweeney toady like Josh Simons standing down for Andy Burnham is a gigantic red flag on the scale of Labour First staffers working on Starmer's original leadership bid, and everyone would do best to not ignore that again.

How Andy pulled it off - the north west-wide search for a seat that ended in Makerfield. So many terrific details here - and why so many of his backers kept the faith By me, @LexyTopping, @HannahAlOthman @JoshHalliday theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

Bearing in mind that recognising this as genocide directly accuses ministers in both the Starmer *and* Sunak governments of the type of thing that might get them arrested and imprisoned, in Britain or elsewhere.

Just so, and this has implications for more or less the whole system. *A lot* of important people were extremely noisy on We Stand With Israel/Crush The Hate Protests, and if we start recognising the most grave war crimes now, then that (correctly) accuses them all of complicity.

“He’s too rich! He’s too poor! He owns a house! He rents! He’s had too many jobs! Does he have a job! He lives on a boat! he lives in a flat!” The media really needs to get its message discipline sorted when attacking Zack. Dunno what we’re even supposed to be angry about anymore
