Govs take game 1, 9-2, over MMI. They go for the series sweep in game 2. Colby Motley hit his 10th HR and 5th in three games. (2-3) HR, 3 RBI Multi-hit game: Buckley, Ryback, Gleaton, Jones, Zarzana Dougherty got the win on the mound.

Colby Motley (@govbaseball) just tattoos this ball to the pull side, getting it way out for a 2-run HR. Loose & whippy hands, strength shows up here. #PGJC

@CaseyMattox_ @mckenzielaw Seems unecessary. I understand the realities, but in theory he can't just go another school and pursue a degree? Wonder if it relates to some value for Duke in eligibility requirements based on enrollment years?

@mckenzielaw I can understand enjoining him from playing or receiving NIL from another school. But "enrolling" seems a reach. Setting aside that we all know the realities here - a court enjoining a kid from simply enrolling at another university?

The TRO is out. There is no question Duke won—and won big—round one. The court enjoined Mensah from enrolling anywhere, playing anywhere, or licensing his NIL anywhere. The court did not enjoin Mensah from entering the portal, but so what? The portal carve-out is meaningless for now. Yes, the order states that "nothing in this temporary restraining order shall be construed as to prevent Mensah from entering into the transfer portal." The court offered no explanation for this carve-out. No findings of fact. No legal reasoning. It simply appears in the decretal language without support. But at this time, and I stress "at this time," every school considering Mensah now knows three things. First, Mensah cannot enroll. Second, he cannot play. Third, Duke holds exclusive rights to his NIL through December 31, 2026. Any school that signs him takes on a player who cannot suit up and cannot generate NIL revenue— the two categories that presumably matter most for a college quarterback. Yet, this is only temporary, and things may change soon— though I honestly doubt it based on the public and court record of this dispute. More to come on Duke v. Mensah. The preliminary injunction hearing is February 2. The actual merits go to arbitration. But the early returns suggest North Carolina courts still enforce agreements as written.

My fellow Virginians,                                           It has been an honor to serve as your Attorney General for the past four years. Together, we made Virginia safer by standing with our brave law enforcement officers, keeping violent criminals behind bars, reducing the flow of fentanyl and other deadly drugs, and defending our constitutional freedoms. Those efforts saved countless lives.  I could not have done this without your support, friendship, and prayers. Virginia is stronger and more secure because of the work we did together.  My mother fled communist Cuba as a penniless teenager. She came to America seeking a better life and the opportunity to achieve her dreams. I often refer to that journey as the American Miracle. Only in America do we have the freedom and opportunity to pursue our dreams, if we are willing to work for them. It wasn’t always easy for my mom when she arrived. There were setbacks and disappointments, but she taught me that when we get knocked down, we have to get back up, work harder, and stay true to what we believe.   As my time as Attorney General comes to a close, I am more determined than ever to fight for what is right, defend our principles, and protect the American Miracle.  I believe in Virginia and in our future. I am committed to fighting to protect it — and I’m not going anywhere.  With eternal gratitude, Jason S. Miyares, 48th Attorney General of Virginia

@corbinlathrop @STL_UVA Many of us were asking the Malik question in-game. Especially when Odom ran isolation for a game winning shot & the most experienced, savvy player in that situation is on the bench. Not a single member of the media pressed Odom on that decision postgame. 🤷‍♂️

This is simply shameful behavior. For context, the case he is referencing was one that the Supreme Court decided unanimously (9-0) in favor of his client.

🚨 From Smears to Plate-Throwing: Inside UVA Law’s DEI Mob vs. Professor Xiao Wang Stick with this one—it’s worth the runtime. UVA law professor Xiao Wang explains what his own colleagues did to him after he argued Ames v. Ohio Department of Youth Services at the Supreme Court: Week after week, students came to his clinic saying that faculty or other students had harassed or chastised them — or had come into his office just to berate him. At a faculty lunch, a professor who opposed the case yells at him in public and throws a plate at him. Tenured faculty sent letters trying to “audit” his Supreme Court clinic after an open letter misrepresents his views. The law school convenes a panel on his case — staffed entirely by critics — and doesn’t invite the person who briefed and argued it. He says he reported the plate incident to the administration: “I’m not sure anything has happened.” And still, he refuses to play the victim. He describes his path from immigrant kid in rural Iowa to Supreme Court advocate — “short of playing for the Lakers, this is the American dream” — and warns that law schools are teaching students “to just judge and think later.” His verdict on his peers is even more damning: “Our job is just to teach the children, not be the children.”

@BarstoolUVA I think this is a win-win situation. Really happy with our squad so wouldn't want a trade back, but very cool that Blake is finding a lot of run and success on a very good team.

@EmbracePaceUVA And if the school decided to disband the football program Virginia would have 0 wins. The games count. Otherwise, the NCAA should have just scheduled a game between Penn St and Texas, called it a day, and moved on to basketball season.
