@MitchellSheten1 😂. Before you know it, we'll become Papist in our doctrine of justification by purporting things like final justification.

@brianonstead And by association, Benjamin Keach quotes Charnock. I think the whole RB movement is cooked.

I was just reading Charnock's Existence & Attributes of God. He was using Aristotelean categories (substance and accidents) and quoting Aquinas. Does anyone know if he ended up becoming a Papist?

@MateyYanakiev Yes, exactly. Paul did not suffer like this when he was a religious, zealous Pharisee "according to the law found blameless." He did not know Christ when he thought he could contribute his own righteousness. This is a zeal for God but not according to knowledge (Rom. 10:1-5).

@brianonstead So I might share Christ’s sufferings, if somehow I may indeed attain to the resurrection (Phil 3:10–11)?

@MateyYanakiev I pray that one day soon you will be humbled and see your righteousness as rubbish so that you may be found in Christ, not having a righteousness of your own on the basis of works and finally come to know Christ and the freedom of the gospel (Phil. 3:8-9).

@brianonstead We wait to be justified based on our works and the motivations of our heart at the Final Judgment (1 Cor 4:4–5). Here we stand; we can do no other.

"the crown of life [James 1:12] is not given according to any merit of it arising from enduring temptation or loving the Lord; but in consequence of the promise of God graciously made to such persons for their encouragement thereunto."

If you observed my posts for the last decade where I wanted to be included in the Calvinist camp, but then constantly posted on why we shouldn't be strict or too strong in those beliefs, would you suspect that I might not be a Calvinist? The same is true w/ confessionalism.

@brianonstead @richbarcellos I had to use it for the Dolezal philosophy class this spring. The glue on the spine failed in one spot and I have 6–8 loose pages now 🫠😵. Prolly have to get another copy.
