From the Showgrounds era... It's February 1953. Howard Craig was associated with many successful plunges at the track. He drove his first winner on Newal at Victor Harbour as a 17YO.

It's 1960. "50500 scream Tulloch to victory" in the Cox Plate and Mac wins the MV Cup.

It's 1961. Dhaulagiri wins the W S Cox Plate.

We celebrated the life of Hilton Donaldson yesterday at the Drouin Golf Club. Leading race callers Darren Flindell and Terry McAuliffe delivered fine tributes to their great mate. Hilton was an outstanding race caller and loyal friend. RIP Hilton 🏇🏽

@MaccasMock Terry, in 1974, a young Hilti asked his Year 6 teacher if he could do a phantom race call of the Melbourne Cup for the class. Given the ok, he nailed it! How do I know this? Well I was the teacher. 50 years later we finally caught up again! Condolences to the family. RIP Hilti

From the Showgrounds era... It's 1962. Sheffield Globe and Bill Shinn won their second A G Hunter Cup defeating Lew's Hope and Friendly Boy. Bill gets his 3rd win in the race in 1968 on Bon Adios. @blake_shinn

From the Showgrounds era... It's 1951. Avian Derby (Syl Bray) easily defeated Real Lawn and Globe Raider (36 yds) in the A G Hunter Cup. He went on to win the Inter Dominion in Sydney in 1952.

From the Showgrounds era... It's December 1955 on the eve of the 1956 A G Hunter Cup. Wells produced this classic tribute to the late Alex Hunter in the Age. The names...Gath, Justice, Norman, Rothacker...

@futurelogan It was probably a SA track in the early days of his career Tony. He raced and won at Kadina, Gawler, Clare, Pt Pirie, Snowtown and Victor Harbour. Classy pacer.
