When the great muscian and songwriter Allen Toussaint died, drummer Stanton Moore pulled together an array of jazz musicians to record a tribute album to him. I was honored to be asked to join. I was given his classic SOUTHERN NIGHTS to become a spoken word gem. Beautiful!

In 2016, I collaborated with another Marsalis Bros. Delfeayo Marsalis and his Uptown Jazz Orchestra. A regular on Wednesday night in New Orleans, this band is a mainstay. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN was a musical examination of our tumultuous American history as the tumult rose.

After a live performance of this masterful work by Christian McBride at the Disney Hall in Los Angeles, we recorded my recitation of Martin Luther King Jr.’s I HAVE A DREAM speech as a musical portrait with jazz orchestra. 2013.

In 2005, I recorded with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra with Irvin Mayfield and the Dillard University Gospel Choir. STRANGE FRUIT is a folklore narration of violence, love, and dignity

My first recording was on Branford Marsalis’ debut album SCENES IN THE CITY. This began my jazz narration career in 1982

Over the last 40 years, I’ve been blessed to combine my love of jazz, my friendship with jazz musicians, with my performance and recording career. At 16 I hosted a radio show on WYLD in New Orleans called EXTENSIONS FROM CONGO SQUARE

A cartoon about my father from the 1960s. At the time he was assassinated, a poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in the United States.
