When President Trump cut off SNAP benefits for more than 1 million of our neighbors, the people of Massachusetts stepped up. We worked with all 13 Massachusetts United Ways to stand up the United Response Fund and raise $7 million to fight hunger in our state.

It’s November 1, and 42 million Americans are wondering how they’ll feed their families without their SNAP benefits. Organizations like The Salem Pantry are stepping up to help folks bridge the gap. That’s why I provided $8 million to Massachusetts food banks this month. It’s also why we worked with the United Way to raise more than $2.5 million in one week, money that’s already being distributed to food banks and community partners across the state. But the heart and soul of these organizations are the hardworking staff and volunteers. No President has ever cut off SNAP during a shutdown. Billions of dollars are sitting in Washington, waiting to be used for exactly this purpose. Donald Trump could fix this today. He’s choosing not to.

As if taking food away from people wasn’t bad enough, local businesses and farmers are going to lose out on revenue because of Donald Trump’s SNAP freeze. The President has the power to fix this. Instead, he’s letting hungry families and businesses pay the price.
