@TannerFBoyle1 Did you go to the show the other night? Oh man, Don Caballero did their best but Promis Ring absolutely killed them

Tanner F. Boyle, Getting Spooked
Workshopping a joke playing off of Don Caballero, the Pittsburgh math rock darlings, and Danny Casolaro, the probably murdered journalist covering the Octopus network, but nothing is coming to me.

@tkohl The guitar is an instrument dreamed up by a sick person. People who are technically proficient at playing it can be a chore to listen to; people who know the bare minimum can record songs with it that never get old.

Qué buena pregunta es: cuál es el disco más Beatle de un artista que no sea los Beatles? He leído respuestas que van desde The Cars hasta Panic at the Disco, pasando por Wilco o Big Star. Maravilloso

Does new Bob Lazar film cover Lazar’s childhood or address what Jacques Vallee said about him?

It’s really funny that all these people insisting The Beatles are the pinnacle of rock & roll also kinda think The Beatles had bad taste in music. Most of these people could take or leave the musicians the Beatles themselves adored.

Like a Dirty French Novel
It's wild to think that, in terms of rock and indie/alternative music, Neil Young has pretty inarguably become more influential than the Beatles or the Velvets.

@Albinisme187204 @BellInMySkin @gvnhill_vmpir @ThatEricAlper 16rpm is roughly half the rotational speed of your standard 33-1/3rpm vinyl. The trade-offs are decreased signal-to-noise & decreased frequency response bandwidth. It was primarily reserved for audio book record sets & pre-recorded radio broadcasts pressed on 15” or 16” discs.

@StevenWallaby Lynch has a clear love for Americana iconography even if he's critical of other aspects beneath the surface. Scorsese's films do not display a love for the mafia

"David Lynch is conservative because he shows the prettiness of americana before undercutting it" is like saying Scorsese is pro-mafia because he likes to immerse viewers in the world by initially showing the allure of wealth, freedom and control. Just harebrained binary thinking

Dennis Wilson was one of the first open-handed drummers in rock history. He started playing this way out of pure instinct.

I have a memory associated with ‘man in the long black coat’ I knew a musician in the 1990s and he invited me, and others, back to his flat, and he wanted me to listen to ‘man in the long black coat’ for some reason,(I hadn’t heard it before) he played it on vinyl to us, then he brought out a big bowl of saki, which was meant for all of us, but I made a major social faux pas and thought it was my bowl, and I drank it all, the result my mind was blown and i ended up having to lie down in his bed, then he told me I had to leave and i crawled back half blind staggering up to my caravan on the hill.

I’m a huge Dylan fan but I stand in awe of the real diehards who today are rejoicing because last night he played a song he hasn’t done live in years and it’s really one of the worst songs ever released by a major artist.

Did you know Cormac McCarthy stopped reading new novels after Infinite Jest and referred to @JoyceCarolOates as "the goggle lady?" My definitive takedown of Jest, MFAs, and the coinage of a new term "publishing-inudstrial complex" to explain it all :) unherd.com/2026/03/why-co…

@MiddleOfMayhem @RobertSkvarla Robert is speaking more about the modern confusion of Blockbuster nostalgia (blockbuster sucked) with what you and I lived through, which is the much more idiosyncratic mom & pop rental stores.

@RobertSkvarla Eh. I really do miss it in general. Especially Mondo Kim's Video in NYC. I spent many hours there with friends. It was a combo of the social experience and the excitement of physically discovering new things.

It's weird how people get nostalgic for the slop of their youth. Blockbuster's business model was built around studio deals that required it to curate its new release wall like most modern streaming sites manage their front pages.
Rob (Ro2R)@Ruleof2Review

Ex-Blockbuster employee here. And I mean it with 100% sincerity that the world would be a better place if we shut down all streaming services, re-opened Blockbusters and video stores worldwide, and shoved people back out into the world to find and enjoy their entertainment.

NIXON: Do you know what an e-girl is, Bob? HALDEMAN: I…no, sir, I don’t believe I- NIXON: Neither did I. Neither did I, until Pat…and I want to say, I hold Pat entirely responsible for this, entirely- until Pat shows me something that Tricia has been circulating. On the ARPANET. HALDEMAN: [INAUDIBLE] NIXON: The network. The Defense Department computer network that we paid for, that, that the taxpayers paid for. HALDEMAN: I’m familiar with ARPANET, sir. NIXON: Well Tricia is also familiar with ARPANET, Bob. Intimately familiar. She has been, and I want to be precise here, because I want you to understand the full weight of what I’m telling you, she has been transmitting, via facsimile, photographs of her feet to researchers at Stanford University.
