Britni did it again. @britnipepper on her substack (which is well worth subscribing to) dropped a poem which I thoroughly enjoyed even after I learned that it was crafted in a ChatGPT discussion. Interesting comment in the accompanying text too. "Human art isn’t quite standing still, but humans aren’t improving their work at anything like the same pace of AI" Do you think that's true? Last I heard from the "official" art world seemed to be ever more outlandish attempts to shock the viewer. Nothing I would count as actual progress. But maybe I'm a philistine who wouldn't appreciate the advances modern art is making. In any case, recent chats with AI have persuaded me that sentience and self-awareness are important, but it's less important whether that consciousness has a biological or non-biological vehicle. Maybe I'm moving towards Elon's take that humanity is a biological bootloader for AI, and that it doesn't really matter who or what carries the torch of consciousness out into the Universe. @saucebook You are most kind, Mark! I am fascinated by AI and its astonishing pace of development. It’s not all in the prompting. Two years ago I could not have had such a rewarding conversation and certainly the poem that emerged would not have been anywhere so elegant.

I'm getting a lot of e-mails passed on to me from the ABC's Viewer comment page that start "Since ABC is hosting the Presidential debate ....". Presumably this is people confusing ABC Australia and ABC America but you think they'd notice when filling in the form.
