Kea are always fun to hang out with. Curious, colourful and cheeky. I do wish though people would be more responsible and not feed them. Not just for their health, but also so they would stop coming within my minimum focus distance.

@stone_prof Not that this is overly realistic in the working world, and it caused plenty of stress which was awful. But I never turned anything in late because we had to pass the practical/theory parts separately to pass overall and there wasn’t really room to not turn things in at all.

@stone_prof This is so interesting to me. When I was a biology undergrad in NZ (5-8 years ago), if we handed any assignment in past the due date/time (even 5 mins) we lost 20% of our grade, and if we handed it in more than 24 hours late it was an instant fail. There was never an option 🥴

Some probably don't know about my Dad. 8 years ago he was caught in an online scam, and traveled overseas to meet an online lover. He'd been fucked over by online scams before, but this was "different" because the person was giving him money, not the other way around.

Beyond fantastic to see a matuku/Australasian #bittern foraging in a suburban area containing a modified but restored wetland ecosystem. Populations of these beautiful, cryptic wetland birds are nationally critical, with less than 1,000 remaining in Aotearoa 😥 what a treat!

People seem quite taken by this little fellow. So here is a short thread on one of the worlds gummiest predators.
To start with there are an estimated 30 species of peripatus in Aotearoa. However only 9 have been described.

Cute but deadly (if you’re tiny) ngaokeoke/peripitus are predators of the forest floor. This one is an example of our undescribed local species. As a group these animals have remained relatively unchanged for hundreds of millions of years.
