@stone_prof Not that this is overly realistic in the working world, and it caused plenty of stress which was awful. But I never turned anything in late because we had to pass the practical/theory parts separately to pass overall and there wasn’t really room to not turn things in at all.

@stone_prof This is so interesting to me. When I was a biology undergrad in NZ (5-8 years ago), if we handed any assignment in past the due date/time (even 5 mins) we lost 20% of our grade, and if we handed it in more than 24 hours late it was an instant fail. There was never an option 🥴

@jont14 Absolutely, would love to see matuku win this year!

Beyond fantastic to see a matuku/Australasian #bittern foraging in a suburban area containing a modified but restored wetland ecosystem. Populations of these beautiful, cryptic wetland birds are nationally critical, with less than 1,000 remaining in Aotearoa 😥 what a treat!

@TayTalksTrees I desperately want to see one in person but haven’t had any luck finding one yet 😩 they are so cool!

People seem quite taken by this little fellow. So here is a short thread on one of the worlds gummiest predators.
To start with there are an estimated 30 species of peripatus in Aotearoa. However only 9 have been described.
Taylor Davies-Colley@TayTalksTrees
Cute but deadly (if you’re tiny) ngaokeoke/peripitus are predators of the forest floor. This one is an example of our undescribed local species. As a group these animals have remained relatively unchanged for hundreds of millions of years.

Most people probably aren't aware that it's standard practice for @inaturalistnz observations adjacent to development sites to be referenced in resource consent applications now so if you want to make a real difference with how your local area develops get out and get observing.

Not everything since 2016 has been bad: the #kakapo population has grown by 100% since then! 252 are alive today. #kakapo2022 #conservation Pic: Deidre Vercoe

I’m absolutely terrified that this is where we are - that after so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights to their own bodies, today’s decision has stripped us of that.
