@Breegemw @CarlowWeather According to Pascal on RTE news yesterday, marine red warnings extend 10km inland. But 10 minutes later on Met Eireann's report, this wasn't even mentioned. I don't know if true or not. Maybe it's just "understood or obvious" to anyone living 10km from the coast?.....

I’ve been saying for years that we need to move to an impact based warning system like the UK Met Office use. The winds we saw yesterday have a much bigger impact this time of year and also when peak of storm is during work day. The Met Éireann system is based on specific thresholds being met and it’s not fit for purpose in my opinion.

@CarlowWeather Also, the timing of orange and red warnings yesterday for Roscommon and Donegal is extremely poor. Issued and effective immediately, what use is that to anyone?

The UK Met Office has issued 7 red weather warnings since October 2020: Storm Arwen (Nov 2021, wind), Storm Eunice (Feb 2022, wind), extreme heat (Jul 2022), Storm Babet (Oct 2023, rain), Storm Isha (Jan 2024, wind), Storm Darragh (Dec 2024, wind), and Storm Éowyn (Jan 2025, wind).
