thank you for saving my life, traveler. here, take this. *gives you a pair of gloves that have slightly worse stats than your current pair of gloves* those were my grandfathers and you would kind of be a monster if you ever sold them

The dramatic ass archeologist in Time’s Arrow really waited all the way to the end of the conversation after showing the boring bifocals and pocket watch to finally reveal Data’s mysterious head to Data and Picard. He knew really how to create a moment.

I voted against someone last week because one of their cited qualifications was "frequent public commenter at city council meetings."

@confusionm8trix I think the point of the movie is that the specific clique-y PMC they're in means everyone else feels obligated to render judgement of some kind instead of just a "wow I'm glad you didn't do that."

@SpicyDaddy8 I mean that's a different frame of critique. I don't ever want to see another generated image or piece of generated writing passed off as human prose ever again. But that doesn't make these into remarkable or unsustainable water customers.

@SpicyDaddy8 I hate being annoying about this but it's too close to my academic background. This is basically the best write up on the issue imo: blog.andymasley.com/p/the-ai-water…. The infrastructure improvements these can pay for are too good of a deal for places with little other industry.

Underrated mistake of Obama's was expanding rural ISP infrastructure in 2016. Like handing over a gun in a knife fight.

@isaiah_bb The tax revenue and the utilities infrastructure investment is real if literally nothing else is. A large electrical customer who can guarantee their usage and coordinate modulation with the power station is insanely valuable.

@isaiah_bb Idk man. Outlets like MPU have been incredibly disingenuous about these projects. It's hard to frame the premise of the opposition as anything other than opposition to all large construction. It feels like a gold rush where nobody wants to pick up a shovel.
