@isaiah_bb The tax revenue and the utilities infrastructure investment is real if literally nothing else is. A large electrical customer who can guarantee their usage and coordinate modulation with the power station is insanely valuable.

@isaiah_bb Idk man. Outlets like MPU have been incredibly disingenuous about these projects. It's hard to frame the premise of the opposition as anything other than opposition to all large construction. It feels like a gold rush where nobody wants to pick up a shovel.

Another reminder that most of the real problems in America aren't caused by some shadowy figures with ingenious plans. They're actually caused by regular voters that get whipped up into a hysteria about things like new housing, nuclear power plants, & now data centers

I haven't posted about it because it's controversial but this backlash is so frustrating to me. If Americans don't know where our food comes from we absolutely don't know where the "stuff in our phones" comes from or how power infrastructure works or apparently taxes.

for context, city officials said the proposed data center would bring in about $53m a year in property taxes, utility taxes, and community benefit payments (even after some abatements on personal property taxes.) i’ve attached a pic of a statement from the mayor. that matters because this comes as jefferson county is moving to freeze property taxes for some residents. it’s not hard to see why local officials would want to broaden the tax base when voters want lower taxes and you just don’t get many chances to land a multibillion-dollar project in jefferson county, mo.
