@saragoldrickrab @chinyereosuji Absolutely. Calling out & deconstructing that social hierarchy is so important. It also bleeds into the impersonal professionalism profs feel they need to perform. These are structures that perpetuate the dominant social order. They’re barriers to achieving equity.

@brocansky @chinyereosuji Right- not a requirement yet many do research because of professional expectations and own desires. And yes, identifying as a teacher is still hard. I really think there’s socialized stigma/ elitism going on that has to be examined….

@saragoldrickrab @chinyereosuji This is such a fascinating topic to explore. In community colleges (as you know), faculty don’t have a requirement to research. Their role is to teach. But identifying as a teacher still is not the norm.

@chinyereosuji If we are going to improve systems for students and level inequality we have to tackle that socialization. So thanks for naming it.

@saragoldrickrab I learned how to teach from asking students about their experiences in my classes and making changes based on their feedback. They inspired me to drop my emotional armor and be authentic.
