CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA INSIDER TOLD PARLIAMENT THE BREXIT DATA SCANDAL WAS BIGGER THAN ANYONE ADMITTED
Cambridge Analytica's own Director of Business Development, Brittany Kaiser @OwnYourDataNow, walked into Parliament in 2018 and blew the whole thing open. She told MPs the number of people whose Facebook data had been harvested was almost certainly far higher than the 87 million Facebook had admitted. Far higher. She said privacy had become a myth and that citizens' data was being scraped, resold and modelled as standard practice.
Then on New Year's Day 2020, while most people were sleeping off a hangover, Kaiser released a second tranche of internal documents. These ones covered Cambridge Analytica's operations across Brazil, Kenya and Malaysia.
They confirmed what many suspected about Brexit, that Leave EU @LeaveEUOfficial, bankrolled by Arron Banks @Arron_banks, had been pitched the same psychographic voter-targeting machine used in the Trump campaign. Work was done. An invoice existed. The money moved through UKIP rather than Cambridge Analytica directly, which was a neat trick given Arron Banks had publicly insisted there was never a paid contract.
Steve Bannon, who was vice president of Cambridge Analytica at the time, introduced Banks to the firm's CEO Alexander Nix in late 2015. The introduction led to meetings that Banks later described to Parliament as just "two or three" in number. The emails told a different story.
The Electoral Commission fined Leave EU for multiple offences including an incomplete spending return. The Information Commissioner's Office @ICOnews fined Leave EU and Eldon Insurance, Banks's company, £120,000 for misusing people's data for political campaigning. The National Crime Agency investigated Banks over the source of £8 million in Brexit funding and then dropped it without charges in 2019.
Netflix made a documentary about it. Parliament held inquiries. Carole Cadwalladr @carolecadwalla at The Guardian @guardian kept the pressure on for years. Kaiser wrote a book.
Nobody went to prison. Banks stood as a Reform UK candidate in 2025. The institutions held their inquiries, wrote their reports, issued their fines, and then got on with their lives.
Your data built the targeting machine. Your vote was the product. The people who built it are fine.

@Alex_Berwick @avfc_david Win the next 4 matches and this will have been the best season for decades. Simple as.

I see it’s taken less than 48 hours for the craziness to set in again.
Villa have to win tomorrow. Do that and it’s just Bournemouth. Who will have to beat both City & Forest to catch us. Unless we get a point at home to Liverpool. Which isn’t ideal but not impossible. #avfc

@AVFCStatto Not losing my head, but a win against Burnley certainly makes the rest of the month look a lot better.

UK borrowing costs calm and pound rises after Starmer says he will stay as PM

I know Villa listen to supporters generally after a few years of a strained relationship as the club grows and evolves into a fit for purpose 21st century club.
So I'd hope that the club would consider opening Villa Park, big screen, music and celebrate the club on the day of the Final.
Get a couple of local bands, a rousing MC, charge £10 with a free drink or two, and make Villans who can't go to Istanbul feel involved. It's their day too.
Aged 11 i wouldn't have been able to afford to go to Rotterdam but I could have gone to VP and been very excited indeed.
Lots of families who already go to games and are financially stretched deserve to feel the magic, and those kids are the future of our club. Some fireworks, music, pop and crisps for a quid, a beer for the same and all of a sudden we make the most important people at our club who can't go to Istanbul, feel a part of the pride.
Hope @AVFCOfficial gives it a little thought, I'm seeing a huge appetite for it on here.

What a fantastic, momentous night for our beloved football club. 44 years since Rotterdam and 30 years since we've won a major trophy. Now we compete in our 5th final since 1996.. Let's make this one, be a winning one!

🏆 First time in history one league has a club in all three UEFA finals!
🏴 EVERY single European final this season has a Premier League team.
▪️ Aston Villa in the UEFA Europa League Final
▪️ Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League Final
▪️ Crystal Palace in the UEFA Europa Conference League Final
🌏 The Premier League isn’t just competing in Europe…It’s OWNING it.

John McGinn: "I'm normally calm before games, but the pressure today was intense. You can kid on that it doesn't affect you [semi-final disappointments], but I was nervous. Tonight was up there with one of the best performances I've seen from a Villa team in a long time."

John McGinn on Villa fans: "We've been through a lot together. We have had low moments, definitely. It’s a demanding club to play, but when it’s like this, Villa Park is electric. There’s no better place to play your football every second week or European football." [TNT]
