🇮🇹 Giro d'Italia teams analysis: Lotto-Intermarché 🇧🇪 🏆: Eetvelt 💨: De Lie (DNF stage 10 + 🤒💩🐮), Menten (🤒💩🐮) 👊🏻💨: De Lie, Menten, TAerts ⛰️ breaks: Eetvelt (+ KOM if GC doesn’t go as plan), Rota 🃏: Gualdi This is not a team built to control the race. It is a team built to exploit it. General Classification / KOM/ Stages – Lennert Van Eetvelt The team clearest GC reference point is Lennert Van Eetvelt. A climber with a strong punch, Van Eetvelt has all the tools to perform well in a race like the Giro, but his trajectory has been disrupted by crashes and injury setbacks. That inconsistency is the key question. When fully fit, Van Eetvelt is absolutely capable of riding for a top-10. His ability to accelerate on steep gradients also makes him dangerous on summit finishes that are not purely steady high-mountain tests. The issue is simple: form and continuity. If he is at 100%, he becomes a serious GC dark horse. If not, he may drift into a more opportunistic role. Sprint & Points Jersey Option – Arnaud De Lie Initially not even expected to ride the Giro, De Lie brings a very different profile: explosive sprinting power combined with the ability to survive rolling and punchy terrain. His recent win at the Famenne Ardenne Classic showed he is competitive even if his spring classics campaign overall was below expectations. However he is expected to dnf around stage 10 and he got recently sick due to 🐮💩, a sickness that made his colleague Liam Slock to drop off from the team. Joker Role – Simone Gualdi One of the most interesting riders in this squad is Simone Gulasi, a genuine wildcard for breakaways and transitional stages. Gualdi has had a strong season overall and looks well suited to the Giro’s middle mountain and rolling stages. He is not a pure climber, but he is excellent in: * Medium mountain breakaways * Punchy finishes * Selective transition stages If he gets the right break, he is absolutely capable of converting it into a victory. Final Verdict: * Van Eetvelt gives them GC presence and/or KOM Jersey * Gualdi gives them breakaway danger #Giro #GirodItalia

🇮🇹Giro d'Italia teams analysis: UAE Team Emirates🇦🇪 🏆: AYates, Vine( if he wants) 👊🏻💨: Narvaez, JChristen, Morgado ⛰️ breaks: Vine, Soler (both KOM), JChristen, Arrieta João Almeida, is out due to health issues and UAE presents a more fragmented but still extremely dangerous squad one that can attack the race in multiple ways, particularly through climbing depth, breakaways, and punchy versatility. General Classification – Adam Yates as the Main Hope With Almeida absent, Adam Yates naturally becomes the primary GC option. Yates is a proven Grand Tour climber with multiple top-10 finishes in his career, including 9th in the Giro (2017) and 12th in last year’s edition. However, his recent form introduces some uncertainty. While he did win the Gran Camino, he has not looked at his absolute peak level this season (besides the work he did in Down Under). That raises a key question: is he building specifically for the Giro, or simply slightly below his best? If he is near his top level, a podium push is not impossible. But compared to the very top GC contenders, he does not appear to be in dominant shape. Realistically: * Top-5 is a strong target * Podium is possible but ambitious * Consistency will be key rather than outright dominance Climbing Depth / GC Wildcard – Jay Vine Jay Vine is one of the most dangerous riders in the UAE lineup. A superb climber and a very strong time trialist, Vine has all the tools to be a GC threat provided he stays upright and consistent, as crashes have previously disrupted his progress in Grand Tours. His versatility makes him particularly interesting: * High mountain capability * Time trial strength * Stage-winning potential * GC outside chance depending on strategy In many scenarios, UAE could realistically split roles between Yates and Vine with Vine either supporting GC ambitions or targeting stage victories depending on how the race develops. --- Stage Hunting / Aggressive Core – Soler, Christen, Igor Arrieta Beyond the GC riders, UAE bring a highly aggressive block designed to animate the race. Marc Soler: A classic breakaway rider for this team. Soler is unpredictable but highly dangerous in mountain escapes and may also target the KOM classification. Jan Christen: One of the most exciting young attacking riders in the squad. Christen thrives in punchy terrain is likely to feature frequently in breakaways. Igor Arrieta: Another developing talent who could play a similar role aggressive, opportunistic, and suited to mountain breakaways. Punchers / Explosive Finishers – Morgado & Narváez UAE also bring two extremely dangerous punchers: António Morgado: One of the most exciting young classics-style riders in the peloton. Morgado is aggressive, strong in rolling terrain, and has an explosive punch that makes him a serious threat in medium mountain or selective sprint finishes. Jhonatan Narváez: Returning from injury, Narváez is somewhat of an unknown in terms of current form, but his capabilities are clear: * Strong punch * Good reduced-group sprint * Excellent in hilly finales If he is near his best, he could be a major asset in transitional stages and punchy finishes. Final Verdict Even without João Almeida, UAE Team Emirates remain one of the most dangerous and versatile squads in the Giro. * Adam Yates → Main GC leader, top-5 contender * Jay Vine → Dual GC/stage threat * Soler / Christen / Arrieta → Breakaway engine * Morgado / Narváez → Punchy stage attackers Their strength lies in flexibility: * GC ambition through Yates * Secondary GC or stage wins via Vine * Constant breakaway presence * Multiple punchers for selective stages The absence of Almeida removes a clear focal point but it also opens tactical freedom. If UAE play it smart, they may end up being one of the most visible and stage-successful teams in the entire race, even without a guaranteed overall winner. #Giro #GirodItalia
