BREAKING: Reports that a "12-metre small plane" has crash landed at Southend Airport, bursting into a "huge fireball". A plume of smoke was seen rising from Southend Airport at around 16:00 this afternoon. Pictures and videos shared with us show huge flames rising from a grassed area next to the runway. It's understood that the airport firefighters were on the scene very quickly. Multiple firefighter crews then arrived at the incident, to join the airport’s onsite firefighter team. The plane crash was witnesses by many people - passengers boarding an easyJet plane, ground handling staff and nearby residents. We'll bring you further updates as we get them. UPDATE 1: Dani Hill, who lives near to the airport, witnessed what happened. She said: "I saw the huge fireball from my window. I’m still shaking like mad. I've never seen anything like it. Praying all involved are ok if any." Multiple ambulance crews have been seen arriving at the airport. UPDATE 2: David Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West & Leigh has issued a statement. He said: "I am aware of an incident at Southend Airport. Please keep away and allow the emergency services to do their work. My thoughts are with everyone involved." UPDATE 3: Essex Police have issued a statement. A spokesperson said: "We remain on the scene of a serious incident at Southend Airport. We were alerted shortly before 4pm to reports of a collision involving one 12-metre plane. "We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours. "We would please ask the public to avoid this area where possible while this work continues. "As a precaution due to their proximity to the incident, we are evacuating the Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club."
